That's a really good question, I was just wondering the same thing yesterday actually.

Although, I first read the thread title as Gutters, and was going to tell you to slip some kid a few bucks to do the dirty work.

For a nice cutter like a Xikar or something special...

Try a little alcohol and water... it cuts the gum buildup (yes that's actually a tree sap that's used to hold the cigar together)...

Since most of us don't carry rubbing alcohol around with us... just dip your finger in your scotch (or other favorite alcoholic drink)... rub the edge (with the blade) and just wipe off on your friends shirt (or a napkin).

I'm sure someone else will attest that the gum buildup looks better on your friends shirt than on your good blade.... and your cigars will thank you for that.

I've used alcohol to clean mine. It seems to work.

Top shelf in the dishwasher works just fine for my XiKARs and my Palio.

You do have to add just a touch of oil to the XiKAR when you do this.

I fear if I tried to set my Palio on my girlfriends chest...she just might throw it out the window.

I don't smoke as often as many of the members, but I have yet to need more than a few extra repetitions of the cutter and a shake or two. So far, so good.
