Thumbs up Tropic Thunder & Lots of Stogies

Went and checked out Tropic Thunder this afternoon (more for the sweet, nourishing air conditioning then anything else); figured it was going to be good for a few laughs, but it was really funny.

If you like satire, you'll really enjoy Tropic Thunder. Tom Cruise completely stole every scene he was in. Surprisingly, he did a great job as a character actor - much better then his last few leading male parts. And, there was lots of cigars. Most of the 'gars were unbanded but I think I saw a Plasencia Reserva Organica in one of the last scenes (it was a bright blue and yellow band). Oh, and the trailers that introduce the movie are bloody hilarious too.

Only thing I heard about from that movie is the massive usage of the word "Ret*rd". (I censer it for people who take offensive to that word) I personally think its not a big deal, Its is after all freedom of speach, if you dont like that word don't go, but the boycotts and bad publicity is a bit overboard.

But anyway, thanks for the review, nice to see a movie with some gars in it!

Everyone one says Tom Cruise steals this movie, and I will admit he is hilarious, but I would have to say Robert Downy Jr was absolutely ridiculous. Thats saying a lot cuz i cant stand any of his other movies. I thought he was the funniest with tom cruise at a close second.

I would be really curious to find out more about this - guess I'll have to see the movie. Can anyone else confirm?

I've yet to watch it, which will surely be soon after all the good comments on it.

Apparently, from the reviews I've read online, if you're overly sensitive, you won't like it. If you're not prejudiced and hate everyone equally like me, you will like it. There was some concern over Robert Downey Jr. being in black face - he's in black face to satirize method actors who do crazy things to their bodies to play a part... actors that are empty shells that only have personality when they fill it with a role. And some groups were upset over the use of the word 'retard'.

You read that here: http://www.famous-smoke.com/cigars/s.../bc/PRO/pass/2

To be fair, Famous posts both positive and negative reviews of all cigars - I'm personally a huge fan, but then to each his own, a washer for every screw, etc.
