Opinions and perceptions on Reyes Family, Puros Indios, etc
Putting on my rep hat for a minute here, I was wanting to know what were your opinions and perceptions about the company and its products. If you have a negative one, why? When was the last time you smoke one.
I appreciate your honest thoughts.

My personal opinion is that these cigars are made for a different smoker than myself. The flavor profile on these cigars is not something that I enjoy. i had one of the Reyes Family Classic the other night, and I honestly can say that I would not have another, I just did not enjoy that cigar at all. The Premier had some great samples over a year ago, but then morphed into something that was bland and salty and not really that pleasant.
Of the Puros Indios I have had, most are sort of a hay flavor. Something I do not enjoy. I think I like cigars that are much more full in flavor (spicy and powerful) and I just think that these cigars are sort of stuck in the past flavor wise. Now, if you ask me about construction, TOP NOTCH. Every cigar has a great burn. I love the new logo and think it is one of the top logos around today, but the cigars just don't really do anything for me. I do know that there are people who love them, as evidenced by what I hear in the walk-in at the B&M when it never fails that someone comes in looking for Puros Indios...They are just not for me. |

To be honest I haven't smoked to many of them. I do like the Cuba Aliados Anniversary but I think the price is a little high.
About a year ago Frank Santos came to Houston and brought the members here a pre production (new cigar) to try out. Not sure what that cigar ended up being but everybody really loved it. Haven't smoked any of the new stuff yet, but if it is anything like the one I smoked last year it will be good. Guess I need to try some soon. |

I would agree with Brent. The Reyes Family sticks I've had recently do not do it for me either. I had anticipated great things based on the initial sticks I tried when the change occurred, but they have not lived up to the initial billing. The last one I had was in early June, and it was a bit sour tasting so I tossed it at about the halfway point. I had hoped the Reyes Family taking the brands closer in under their wing that great things would be forthcoming. But, based on my last experience, that does not seem to be the case. I don’t think I’ll be smoking another one of their current offerings any time soon.
I do still have a lot of Puros Indios and Cuba Aliados sticks from two or three years ago, which I occasionally smoke for something different - in fact I just had a 99 Viejo on Saturday. I do gift a lot of them as my tastes have changed a bit. My friends who may not be experienced cigar smokers do like these well seasoned sticks.

I've smoked a couple Reyes Family PREMIEREs and enjoyed them enough to buy a box for the golf course, and tried a fiver of the Classic, which I didnt really care for that much. My only complaint is that the majority of them had soft/spongy spots, which IMO made the price a bit steep, if my memory serves me. But a good smoke on the course, yard, etc...

First I would like to say that the Reyes family is a very generous company. I have the up most respect for them. I have to be honest and feel the same way as Brent in his description and interpretation of this blend. I have tried the Classic & Vintage and was not my cup of tea, but at the same time could be a good cigar to many people I'm sure .Their craftsmanship in the making of their cigars are spot on. Sorry but I am just be honest as you requested.

Thanks for your request for honesty. I respect the Reyes family, but the cigars are just not good. I constantly go back to them to see if it was me, but I end up smoking half the cigar and killing it. The tobacco is very grassy, and soapy in it's taste. I think a change of tobacco is overdue. I even tried the lastest blends and with the same result. SORRY!

Not a big fan. They just do nothing for me. Not to mention they mess up on orders all of the time....

Never had anything from them... Marketing is what causes me to try a cigar and I haven't felt like they have grabbed my attention.

I also agree that the "trademark" flavor is a grassiness. not and acrid grassiness (like the acrid flavor of the wheat in a hefeweizen) but just enough of the flavor to put me off of the rest of the lines
