Hellacious Camacho

Need a bit of advice here. I bought 3 Camacho sticks a few days ago to give this brand a try.
Smoked one yesterday in the car, and nearly brought up breakfast and lunch. It was such an over -the- top throat-ripper I had to get rid of it half way down.
I know these cigars have a pretty decent reputation, and I probably should have left them in the humi 2 weeks before smoking.

Now I want to get my remaining 2 to chill out in a major way. I am seriously thinking of letting them air out outside the humi, just setting them on a cedar sheet on top of my desk for a few days before returning them to the humi.
Have any of you apes tried this? Larry.

Haven't tried it and don't recommend it either . To me , Camacho's are a real strong cigar and should not be smoked on an empty stomach . I will only burn a Camacho after a full meal , and I mean right after not 3 or 4 hours later . They can be real azz kickers so be careful with them or as you now know ,

Well, I'm sure airing them out will do more harm than good. Do you know which Camacho you had? I've tried a few, and there's one that I stand behind because it's so great. If you want, just leave them in the humi and let it sit for a little while, a month or two.

Just finished a Camacho Havana churchill. The Havanas are pretty civilized as far as Camacho goes, but they're still heavy hitters. The Corojo Diploma sent me into orbit-- one of the strongest cigars I've ever burned, but man was it tasty. In any case, Bubba is right: ya gotta smoke em on a full stomach, no question.

I'm not sure which of the Camacho line these are. The shape is like a petit corona, 5.5x40 and the label reads "Camacho C" in the center. On the side it says "tabaco jamastran".
I took them out of the humi about an hour ago, because I can't say I care if they live or die really. On your advice I'm putting them back in, but they will probably stay unsmoked for a year before I try another. If the next is also a vomit-stick the last one will go to any of you guys who wants it, with a big heads up...

Re: Hellacious Camacho

was the label on the cigar you smoked black or brown...or was there a label?
i tend to smoke camachos quite a bit...one of my fav smokes. the strongest ive had yet is the SLR Maduro. the brown labeld ones are a bit lighter. my little bro had a black labeled one and he said its killer.....i have one in the humi. a friend had the havana and said it too was pretty strong...aslo have thta in the humi....pretty much all the camacho's ive had have been strong, even the lighter ones...but to me that is good. i like a really strong cigar every now and then. not sure how the black label one rates next to the SLR Maddie, but i will soon. if you wanna go over the top, hit up the SLRM. good flavor...make sure you are sitting though.

Re: Hellacious Camacho

I tested a Camacho Coyolar Torpedo two nights ago. I gave it one of the few "F" ratings that I have given to a "brand name" cigar. It was certainly a good looking cigar, and the smoke it gave out was profuse. However, the flavor was simply bad and by the time I was half way down the stick, I felt like I was going to hurl everything that I had eaten that day. This stick just gave the appearance to me that it was a "strong for the sake of strong" stick. Absolutely no complexity or good flavor. Granted, I don't like strong sticks to begin with, but at least I can acknowledge that some, like ERDMs, tasted good before I threw up.

I have a few red bands from the Camacho line in my collection. This means that I have smoked them, but did so before I started keeping records. Consequently, I don't know whether I did not buy any more of them because I did not like them, or if I just have not seen that many of them around lately. The B&M where I purchased the red banded Camachos is no longer in business, and the red bands are not real popular in the B&Ms that I frequent now.

Adam - They have brown labels. So these are the lighter ones, huh. What I'm thinking is that I was in too much of a hurry to try the cigar. I usually don't like smoking anything right out of the cello wrap, and routinely give any new aquisition at least 2 weeks in the humi.
Re the SLRM's - Think I'll leave 'em for you, am learning that I can only go up to a certain point on smoking heavy-hitters. For me, a really nice full flavor would be one of the top-line maddies by Fuente. Larry.

Those would be the Camacho Havana cigars. One of my favorite NC's and not very pricey either. It's a shame you don't like these, but I still would suggest you wait a few months and give it a try. I've had two Camacho Coyolar's, the first one was not bad, but the second one was Hopefully you run into a good Camacho Havana.

This was the Corojo petite. Only the Corojo and the Coyolar have brown labels, (Havana has a gold and red label) and only the Corojo comes in this size. It's a strong cigar, made with "first generation" corojo seed obtained from grandson of the farmer who first developed the strain in the Vuelta Abajo. I would be very surprised if these mellow out much with time.

Re: Hellacious Camacho

I havent had this particular one, but from past experience, aging will mellow it out pretty well. Carlos Torano exodus 1959 killed me the first time, but after 4 weeks of aging it was superb

Re: Hellacious Camacho

Try the Churchill in the corojo.....awesome cigar. They need to be kept at a lower rh (@65%) like Cubans. If you get one that's "on," hang on cause your'e in for a hell of a spicy ride.

The Havanas are too peppery for me & I like peppery.

The SLR is a very nice stick, but will slap you around for the 1st few puffs. Keep smokin'.

The Diploma was just like a regular corojo to me, but seemed smoother.

The Blacks, or Coyalars, I'm still not sure about. Smoked a perfecto the other day & it did have some hp, but didn't really perform well. I have 4 left that are resting.

All that being said......always eat before smoking a Camacho.
