I don't, but I probably should as well. I only ever had a problem once years ago - a five pack of Professor Silas from CI. Since then, I've renamed them "Prof. Sila's Tobacco Beetle Farm"

I don't. When I order from my regular shops, I just put them in with the others, but if I am trying a new vendor for the first time, I keep them in a separate humi that can hold approx two boxes or many singles.
It would totally suck to have an infestation! I smoke everyday, so I am always looking at temp and humidity. I just hope that I would catch it before I have a problem. |

Okay....I REALLY don't like beetles... they creep me out
![]() What do the cigar bugs look like, and should I worry about the stuff I get from Famous-smoke? I haven't ever put my new cigars in the freezer, should I have? Do the bugs infest just certain manufacturers cigars, or are they in ALL cigars?

I've only put a few in the freezer. Once, because somebody I thought knew what was right told me to. Once, because I had a little scare, but no bugs actually turned up, just holes in a wrapper or two.
So, no.

I don't bother because my freezer isn't cold enough. Four degrees F is good enough to kill adults/larvae; but -10 F for at least 72 hours is needed to crack eggs/kill pupae (according to various sources on the 'net).
The really annoying thing is when you get the tobacco beetles in your house. The eggs will hatch a week or so after the right conditions exist, and the larvae will eat almost anything - in my house, books - but they prefer tobacco. It is the larvae that make the holes (and they will eat through cello). They feed for a month or two, then become pupae for another couple of months, and then come out flying as adults (making one last hole). I know Padron freezes everything coming into the USA. Habanos used to fumigate - they may still - but I think they (or the Canadian importer) also freeze now. Anyhow, a bunch of smaller humis are better than a few big humis for this reason. As is keeping cigars in boxes rather than out in the open. |

Nope. Too many cigars... and the Kroger said no when I asked to use their freezer.

I never have, but I've been worried about them little bugs for a while. TX is prime climate for them. I do keep 3 different humidors to keep them separated.

I had an exterminating business for nearly 20 years on Long Island. Tobacco beetles are pretty rare in homes but can be pretty problematic. I've been out of it for a while but there may be some feremone traps available now if you check into it. They work very well with some other pests like Indianmeal moths. Much better than insecticides.
