I live in Houston and keep the house around 78F in the summer. I had one beetle outbreak about a year ago and decided to solve the problem by purchasing a Vinotemp cooler. This keeps the temp around 67F. So far no more problems. I'm having a little problem with humidity control but I have been told that adding a fan inside the cooler will solve that problem.

Hmmm. I just assumed they could not get into my humidors, as long as the lid is shut. I have smaller humis: The biggest one is 150 ct.

This summer, the temp would sometimes get to 78. So far, I have not noticed any beetles or beetle holes. Next summer I will keep the humis cooler.

Ok, I admit it.. I'm scared of the buggers!! I watch everything like a hawk..

I would feel bad if I sent some firecrackers with buggers in them, too..

I live in L.A. and the damn temp went up into the 90's this week even by the beach (ok, a little cooler)!!

I am just trying to keep the odds on my side..

I do worry but I've never seen one. I live in the desert and it's difficult to keep my humi temp below 76. My preventive measure is to freeze a shot glass of crystals once in a while. I did it recently and it brought the temp down gradually and seemed to keep it below the start temp.

Quite a bit has been said about manufaturers and distributors taking measures to prevent beetle problems. I just don't see a big need once they get to me.

I sometimes worry about them but, I never really do anything to prevent them. I keep my ac on in the summer at 75 due to cost reasons. I keep my heat down to 67 in the winter also due to cost reasons. I've never had a problem. Hopefully!

I was of the impression that humidity was a factor in the hatching of betel eggs. not sure where I read this but seem to recall it. Also this is not the first place I have heard of Gurka having betel problems. My self, I don't worry about it to much but then I have never had to deal with the problem. I do try to keep my temp below 75 and humidity between 65% and 70%.

I also keep my eye open for the little buggers--Keep the temp around 72-74 every day in the summer. Winter no problem--
