Poll: Bug Prevention?
If you've been around cigars for awhile, you've no doubt encountered tobacco beetles and the damage they can inflict on your stash. Temps above 74 and their eggs hatch... then the little buggers bore holes...

As for me...
I just keep a close eye, because I don't like to make the wrappers more fragile than they are.

I voted no. I imagine ones answer could be swayed by where you live also. The thing I've always wonder about is how long they have to be in a higher temp before you start to worry. I went out of town before for about a week and I know the smokes were sitting in 74-78 degrees the whole time. I was a bit concerned then but everything was fine. Maybe I was just lucky.

I do check from time to time but I really don't worry about it. The hard thing is having rows of cigars stacked on top of each other. The only way to check the bottom ones is to remove the top rows. Really alot of trouble.

I'm in Mississippi and my cabinet humi never goes above 70 degrees (usually 68-69) and stays around 67-69 humidity. But i could care less about energy bill I have to be cool, my thermostat does not go above 70 ever. usually 69. Why the Hell do I live down here I'll never know.

Well, I worry more during the summer since I can keep my house at about 75 but no lower since my central air sucks. I use window units. In winter my house is seldom above 70.

Yes in the summer it's just too hot out here but in the winter ( the whole 2 months of it) I don't worry about it.

Don't really worry about it. Almost all smokes are fumigated at some point before they go to retail. Just went through 2 weeks with no AC because of Ike and temps got to 85 in the house. So far so good.

I don't worry, but I would guess that keeping my cigars at 65-70 degrees would be a preventative measure even if I don't really think about it...

I never had until this last week. I was smoking a cigar I got from a new company (at least new to me) and when I took the band off I spotted between four and six holes and immediatly thought "oh sh%*!" this stick had been sitting in one of my humis for at least a week or two prior. So first things first, disect the cigar and to my surprise I found moving larvae or eggs (not sure) in the core of the filler. After throwing that stick away and taking the others of this brand out of the humi's I went through all humis thes sticks were in and removed all cigars cleaned them and put them in plastic bags before putting them back in the humidors, just in case. So now I will always try and be smart about containing any beetle related disasters.

I never used to but...
Recently I have had two sticks that I sent out one in a pass and one in a bomb arrive with beetle holes in them. They were fine when I put them in the box but had holes when recieved. They were both from the same drawer in my tower and both Gurkhas, One Gengis Kahn and one Fuerte. I looked at the rest in that drawer and no holes except for one other Gengis Kahn I have since isolated them. On a side note I do keep it cool in the room so that may be why.
