Do ISOM need extra care?

I got home from work tonight and started inspecting my cigars in the wine cooler and when I got to my ISOMs I noticed they all had white mold on them. So, I brushed them off and placed them in my desktop humi where the RH is alittle lower then my wine cooler and hopefully I won't have any other problems with them..

I'm confused since all my NC are completely fine. No mold, all feel nice to the touch not too soft or firm and they smell wonderful. Now, I trust my source so its not that, Has anyone else noticed that CCs are just more fragile?

yes they are and I usually will sing to them before I go to sleep at night and will leave notes for them in the morning before they wake up so they know they are special and not like the NC or Hondurans, etc etc. I usually will put them in a box with other cubans so there won't be any pettiness or little cigar fights that they love to get into,,don't even get me started on the one that happend a few months ago between one of my Opus Cigars and a Cuban Cigar, which is why I had to put them into seperate humis.

Truth be told, I have had both together in the same humi for quite some time and just check your RH and temp, that's it.

Are you sure it was mold and not bloom? Mold is fuzzy, bloom is powdery and DIVINE.

i think you have a temp or rh problem just because the tobacco is grown in cuba does not mean it needs special attention its grown in a climate similar to all other tobacco it is tropical and humid which is what the humidor is supposed to be acting like.

i have never experienced mold or "bloom" on my cigars. ive seen green patches and such but not mold, are you using distilled water? tap water can easily make cigars moldy because of the minerals in it and other things and anytime you stick minerals and chemicals in a wet damp and moist heated area for an extended period of time you are going to get mold

It shouldn't need anything different from your other cigars. Its all tobacco my friend, regardless of its origin.

most of the non-cuban manufactures take extra steps to provide us with worry free cigars. the name of the game in cuba is to turn and burn. if you have the contraban in your humi, drop the rh to 65 and keep the temp at 70 or lower.

good luck

The only real difference between the 2 is that CC's dont' have cello on them and a lot of Non CC's do. That might have a little something to do with it.

White and completly covering the cigar sounds like plume to me. Rejoice my fried. Your cigars are aging well.

Check the link for mold v. plume for more info and to correctly diagnose the issue/happy times.

What are some of the things that Non-cuban manufactures do to make cigars worry free?

The two biggest things the non-cuban manufactures do is to freeze the tobacco (helps prevent beetles) and proper soil fertilzers (reduces pest)

Mike

by the way, I heard about the cuban tobacco grower that received 20 lbs of fertalizer for 100 acres of land.
