What are the best cutters?
I saw a cutter with 3 blades, I bought a knife that is supposed to cut. Dozer warned me it's a FPS. I've seen all kinds of gadgets. I just want a cutter that I can trust not to screw up my cigar. I don't care if it a hundred bucks, I just want a clean cut.

Ask a question like that and you are going to get a boat load of responses. I primarily use two cutters; My first is a simple Palio Double Guillotine that has two razor sharp blades that cut the cigar from both sides. Hard to screw it up and they give you a lifetime guarantee on them. They can be had for less than $50 for the simplest models (the more expensive ones give you nicer finishes, but they all have the exact same blades, so save your $$$ unless you are into the bling.
the other cutter is a Boston Cigar Cutter Company http://www.bostoncigarcutter.com/ pocket-sized V-cutter. This sucker does not work on every cigar as it is somewhat limited in the ring gauge department, but on the thinner cigars, it gives you a nice cat's eye cut. I actually prefer it to the straight cut from my palio. you can buy a cheap single blade v-cutter that would be good for a few clips to see if you like the style before investing the $100+ on a nice one.

Xikar. I have two of them. They also carrry lifetime free sharpening. If it goes dull, ship to them, they sharpen and return them to you. If you buy one be sure to register it online, they use to send you a free leather case if you did, I assume they still do.
I also have a swiss army knife ( Wegner, not a Victronox) that has a cigar scissor tool on it that it very nice. I have never screwed a cut up with it. |

I have a Xikar. Its hard to get used to it first (at least it was for me), but it works extremely well. Not to mention the lifetime warranty, which is a major plus.

get yourself a palio and you'll be happy. it's always sharp, and always cuts properly for me.
i've never liked using a xikar. couldn't get used to it. i also know that holts offers a nice cheap $2 cutter that lasts a while. i've gotten a couple from a friend on another board, and they work great.

I always used my XiKAR, that was until I got my Palio. It's the sharpest cutter I've ever owned, and has given me the best cut hands down.

I would say the Palio. I don't have one but have used them. I love my Xikar, but if you don't use it just right you get an uneven cut. Whatever you get just make sure it is a Double Guillotine, these will do the best job at cutting the cigar with cracking the wrapper!!
If you like the V-cut then you need to go with Wolf brand. I have never seen a Double Guillotine V-cutter. The wolf is different then all other V-cutters I have seen. A reg V-cutter works like this Blade point at cigar >O the Wolf works like this <O so that the outside of the blade is hiting the cigar first and cutting at two points (like slicing) instead of point first which is more of a stabing cut. The Wolf is so much smoother and makes a great cut! |

I love V cutters - yes, they're disposable, but for me they take just enough off while maintaining cigar integrity.

Palio, and Xikar scissors. I prefer to use my Xikar scissors, but the palio also works fantastic.

I had a plugged cigar once and decided to alternate cuts between the Palio and the Xikar. The Palio cut "thin slices of bologna" off the stick and the Xikar although works well simply couldn't perform like that it tended to squish the seegar more. So I would have to say Palio and Xikar is second.
