tekee,
First off bad ass avi. I'll just tell them I'm captain Jean-Luke Picard of the United Federation of Planets, they don't speak English anyway.

Second, At least General took care of you. Its funny this came up today. I was at the B&M the other day for the lunchtime cigar. The general rep was there and after a brief chat I ended up with a punch double maduro rothschild. Well the cigar immediately started unraveling after I cut it. Not a big deal I just grabbed the pectin jar the B&M keeps handy and fixed the problem. Well in the process of fixing it the rep saw me and offered a replacement. I didn't see the need in that since it was easily fixable with pectin and told him that. Well a little while later he tossed me a excalibur robusto, "for my troubles". Good customer service. Better than I've received from other companies.

Illusione in particular, its sad the cg4 was one of my favorites but I refuse to smoke them anymore. After dropping damn near $16 per stick on two M7's and both of them being completely crap, construction wise. I posted a thread here on Cigar Live in the illusione section to which dion never said anything. THen I emailed them and still never heard a thing. Oh well I'll just never buy another one. My local B&M has pretty much stopped carrying them anyways. It was hinted to me that the construction issues were part of that.

Excellent customer service is what you received. Unfortunately that is becoming more and more rare these days. Mistakes happen. Cigar creation is more art form and less mechanical and as a result there will always be errors. The big question is how does a company deal with those errors when they do occur and are they doing everything they can to limit them.

That's exactly it Jon, you hit the nail on the head. As I found in the marine industry, if you have humans involved you will have a potential for errors. It's all about how the company stands behind the products they sell - whether its a $200 box of sticks or a $200K boat. Customer service is the absolute key to long term success. Companies that value customers and their input will be the ones standing at the end of the day. Just look at what Frank Santos is doing on another thread -- he truly cares a lot!!!!

There has been a persistent rumor about Davidoff's Private Stock cigars being seconds...I don't believe they are.

The QC guy actualy breaks the sub par cigars in half.

Since I was a manager at a B&M years ago til this very day I believe there 1-3 bad cigars per box. And it is sad to say that this is considered acceptable. It has gone on like this in the 12 years I have been smoking with MANY brands.

This is probably true and agreeably sad.
