I like a torch if the cigar is bigger than 50 ring gauge it gives you more heat to light the larger foot of a cigar with good control. However on cigars with small ring gauges I find that if you are not careful with a torch, especially double or triple burners, you run the risk of over toasting the foot which then gives you harsh flavors.

i uses matches since i have become pretty good at lighting with them, i smoke outside but i light my cigar inside, matches are cheap so i dont think i'll ever have a reason to switch

I use a torch for on the go and at home most of the time but when I am in the mood to really just sit down, close the door to my den, turn on some Ol' Blue Eyes, and really focus/enjoy/relax with a premium stick I like to use the "3 match" method, I think having the ritual to lighting enhances the experience (at least for me)

I use whatever I have on hand. If I break it down, it would be something like this:
Torch - 90%
Disposable (bic) - 9%
Matches - 1%

Jon is busy asking some good questions. When I am at a B&M I like to get the whole feeling of cigars and that means doing it the old fashioned way, matches with cedar strips. Even though I own about a dozen lighters there is nothing quite like taking your time and using cedar to light your cigar. Even better is watching the host clip your cigar and bringing you the matches and strips,,,some hosts will actually help you with this process but as usual, this is a service that you will pay for at the end of your billing. It's all good.

I use a single torch 99.9% of the time. But I do want to start using a soft flame. Will probaly start with a soft flame lighter before I try using matches. Have tried matches before and just didn't get a good even light. Guess I need to take more time lighting it.

I've smoked cigars for over 16 years and I have never had a torch lighter affect the flavor of the cigar in any way, shape, form, or fashion. I prefer a torch, but I am know to pull out my S.T. Dupont Line 2 and/or Gatsby from time to time.

I usually use the torch because it is easier, and faster; plus it works in the wind. If there is no wind, I use the 3 match method. I use 3 matches, and don't clip the cigar until the end. I just heat up, the end - and when the 3rd match is out, I puff it.
