Once I got my first humidor, I knew I was hooked. I would buy one or two cigars every once in a while, but I would always smoke them right away. Once I had the humidor I had to fill it up as soon as possible. Thats when I started smoking more often, and when I realized that I really really like cigars.

Well being a college student low on money I'm not exactly a big spender right now(I was over the summer ha) but last June when I was in the lounge of my local shop with a friend of mine. I've been smoking since the February before that, but it wasn't until then that I knew I was hooked. It was just the environment I was in and the type of people who were there.

As a kid I would sit in the woods with my buddies and smoke Havatampa's, puffing on this mellow smoke (guaranteed that is was way worse than I remember). Cigarettes never appealed to me, and I have never smoked them. But a cigar was something completely different.
After I tried every machine-made cigar known to man, I finally took the plunge with some Punch London Club. I usually found myself smoking alone, so I had no one to give me advice on the finer aspects of cigar smoking. So, the "aspect" that I used was $$, and I bought what I could afford and tried new things whenever it was in the budget.

The day I received my first whole box of cigars. I say received not bought because they were a gift from my wife. I had bought a humidor and was buying 5 or 6 singles ever time I was out at the local B&M, but not making any big purchases. My wife paid attention to what I kept buying and bought me a box of Torano '59 Exodus Robustos for my birthday. The cigars are long gone, but I still have the box as a reminder.

I have enjoyed a cigar every now and again over the past 20 years or so. I quit smoking cigarettes recently, and it wasn't so much the nicotine that was keeping me from quitting, but the fact that I like to smoke. So I thought about it and paired my enjoyment of smoking with cigars instead of cigarettes. I may get some nicotine from the cigars, but I would say no where near the amount that I got from cigarettes. I smoke probably 2 cigars a day, maybe 1 on the weekend. So I am not getting much nicotine, as opposed to the amount I got from tthe cigarettes (before you ask, no I am not inhaling). It was actually really easy to quit cigarettes this time.

That started my interest in cigars. if i am gonna smoke 'em I want to smoke good stuff. So I started trolling the websites and forums. After finding Cigar live, Club Stogie and BOTL and saw what kind of community these sites have , THAT is when I got hooked. The pairing of smoking the sticks and having somewhere to discuss 'em and get information in this "hobby".

Always liked smoking. 20+ years. But just when camping or on weekends. Usually the same thing. Then my favorite was discontinued. So started looking for something to replace it. Tried a lot of different ones from the B&M, but was unsatisfied. Then started a journal. Noticed that I preferred Nicaraguan flavors and started focusing on those. Now I have a nice rotation going and constantly adding to it. And they are all better than my previous favorite. I noticed I was hooked when I was smoking daily.

A day just isn't complete without a good cigar!
