I did it. He was speaking at the United Church of Christ General Synod meeting in Hartford Connecticut. He did give the press the finger...which was cool

about half way through he was talking about the press having too much control and he paused, looked in the camera, smiled, and did the fig on his nose like he was scratching it

damn right, we need to be proactive NOW...just sitting back and complaining about something that might happen is BS, we can write our employees (representation) in DC and tell them NOW that we wont tolerate a tax increase of this kind and that any tax increase would DESTROY the industry, therefore leaving them without a funding source.

BUT WE MUST DO THIS NOW....hell even write Obama...in his speech he said even though someone didnt vote for him he was still their president and would do everything he could do for them....I say we call him on it...

The word is that the cap this time around would be about $1.35 a stick, but could fluctuate lower depending on the revenue from cigarettes (which will get a 45 cent per pack increase). So it might be lower. The wild card is Nancy Pelosi's statement the other day saying the "new" tax will be larger than the last one presented "due to inflation." Hang on.

Excellent post, Patrick. In a time like this, we need to collectively make our voices heard, and these two organizations are our best bets in doing so.

BTW the damage you did to our Rocky Sungrown ashtray is still fully intact and awaiting Rocky's arrival...

Hey, whether you voted for him or not one thing this election showed us is the power of our voices. I second that...let's stop complaining and make ourselves heard and visible. I honestly believe that we can change some other things in our government beyond electing our new president. Let's make him accountable to hearing us...

Ok, that's all of my politics for year. Where's my cutter...

The power of the voices was heard, now Obama will be the new President.
I think it goes something like this in the Bible.
Ask and ye shall receive, seek and ye shall find.
It also says you REAP WHAT YOU SOW.
Unfortunately this will be the downfall of many smaller B&M's, if the tax per cigar doesn't get them on their sales, the floor tax will kill them.
Stock up while you can.

Obama quit smoking. He also promised to push SCHIP and get it completed in the first 3 months of his Presidency. The bill imposes a $10 per cigar tax. It is a bogas bill listed for "children" I maybe willing for some tax for health care if It would take care of all people at or below the poverty level.
