Sorry Barry - hope it gets resolved quickly for you.

As far as the name brand cigar thing, you really need to have a mix of name brands and boutiques. You can sell a ton of Macanudos and Romeos and at the end of the day you are not going to see much profit. The manufacturers will get the lion's share of the consumer's dollar in those cases. You should offer people what they are looking for like the big names, but also some other things that you know that they would like as well. You need to carry some lines that aren't available in your area, otherwise, how are you going to distinguish your store from every other store? Just make sure that the boutique cigars you carry are of excellent quality and value. How are you going to show you're cigar-savvy to your customers if you don't offer them something they can't get everywhere else? You can build up any quality brand that you want to build up in your store if you believe in the brand. I know this from experience.

I would start a petition that would create a law so that if the gov turns down a license, they have to make it clear as to why it was turned down. That sounds like absolute BS to me. azzapp:

Oh don't get me wrong the cigar store will be a tremendous balance of brand/boutique cigars.

The issue was carrying cigars that are rolled locally without bands til the license comes through.

I really would like to know what the reasoning was behind the denial of your application. There's a new Dominican cigar shop that opened on 116th & 1st Ave. They just opened over night. Hmmmm.....
