New York Stinks!

As some of you know I have my hands in a cigar store that is opening in the bronx. Well, New York just denied us our tobacco license. It is being fought, but as of right now we have to start the filing process from scratch.

Update 11/07: License was received!

Hate to hear that and why they can't just say what the reason is would drive me to drink. I had friends in the Boston area who were always having probs with the powers that be when they tried to expand their store into another area of the city and they were turned down for some BS reason that they didn't tell them either. This guy had 3 stores already. Hope you get it resolved soon.

It ain't any better upstate bro. This big apple is a bit rotten at the core!

Bloomberg does have to go, but there's not a darn thing we folks up here can do about it. Bad thing is what happens down state finds it's way up to us. The day he got the smoking ban passed down there, the rest of the state followed. Same thing with all the shop licenses. They make it hell to get one. We had the Mac bus here a few years ago for one of their promotions, guess what! they wouldn't issue a waver so the folks could smoke on the bus!!

I feel your pain. I've worked on many land development deals all over the country and there are two jurisdictions that I dread more than any other - NY & Boston!

One of my NY Retail customers waited 6 months for his license. In the interim he featured my cigars (unbanded), no invoice, no tax declaration. I considered it discounted internet sales. If you're interested I could work out the same for you.

The problem with bringing in stuff like DF has is it develops a rep for a store with no "premium brand name cigars" and the customers you lose in the beginning because of that are hard to get back.

Also, with the license pending you don't want them to send an inspector and have them see you selling cigars without the tobacco license. That is a major fine and I believe jail time.
