How much do you inhale?

I'm still a newb here and to cigars, even though I'm learning more and smoking more now that I can start to pick some things up. But anyway, ever since I've been smoking, especially once i got use to it a little, I inhale some....not all...of a cigar. Thought it was normal. Then may B&M guy was amazed that my friends and I would do this. It also seems like a lot of you don't do this. I might suck in maybe 1/3 or so and the rest is just get it in my mouth and puff it out. What do you guys do? Am I a minority or is this sort of common?

Re: How much do you inhale?

I'm with zamco17. A good cigar will knock me right the hell out without taking it into my lungs. However, my dad told me that you always inhale about 20% inadvertently. That might just be some parenting nonsense though.

Re: How much do you inhale?

I wont leave you by yourself in this.
I inhale a little bit of it, about like you say you do. Not with every puff, and im working on not doing it at all, but I do inhale some.
Ive been smoking cigs for..(quick math) ten years now, so It does not kill me to partially inhale a cigar (inhaling a full puff still kicks my butt sometimes). Like I said though, I'm trying to not do it at all, I don't want that to be a habit of mine.

Re: How much do you inhale?

Some of the old timers around cigar king here in Chicago told me a long time ago, that they like to inhale every so often to get the "real flavor" of that particular stick. so, for the past few years, i do it on occasion. no extra taste though. just extra burning. i still try every so often in hopes that one day i'll get that extra "WOW thats good!" puff.

Btw, i'm new here. So i'd like to say hello to everyone, and may i add that this is a pretty sweet place you guys have here. been lurking for a few weeks, and finally decided to join.
This is my first membership to a cigar forum. i visited the cigar aficionado forums for a couple years, but honestly never made even one post. i'm sure you all know about the bunk attitudes of those guys, so i wont go there.

nice to be around cigar fans, not just the "im better than you!" crowd.

NEVER a straight inhale. I do sometimes let the smoke ease out my mouth slowly and breathe in some to experience the aroma or I'll wiff the foot by my nose.

Re: How much do you inhale?

I used to smoke cigs so occasionally I inhale cigar smoke by mistake. The result is usually that I’m choking, eyes streaming, for a couple of minutes.

Unless you’re in a very well ventilated environment, the smoke you exhale and the smoke coming off the cigar will hang around you in a cloud for a few moments. You’ll breathe some of this smoke in on your next in breath. Second hand smoke, if you will. That might be the 20% your dad was talking about. I've found that is an important part of the experience for me. I've been in cigar bars that are just too well ventilated. The experience of smoking a nice cigar is less enjoyable. So I guess I do inhale, just not directly.

P.S. Welcome aphexacid!

Re: How much do you inhale?

I don't knowingly inhale cigars at all; the smoke is way too strong for that. It's more of a taste and smell experience for me.

Re: How much do you inhale?

I inhaled once, accidently, and after hacking up my left lung, I decided I better be more careful never to do that again....

Re: How much do you inhale?

I don't purposely inhale but I do inadvertently inhale some of the smoke. That's enough for me and I never got the WOW great taste from it either like some others have said they do. Never could understand what I was missing at least I'm not alone.

Me too, plus I will occasionally blow the smoke out of my noise and "taste" it better that way. Although, doing that more than 2-3 times per cigar almost guarantees a sinus infection so I proceed with caution.

Re: How much do you inhale?

I don't think I conscienciously inhale or not inhale. I've never smoked cigarettes, but it seems I do inhale some smoke. I don't take a draw from the stogie and then take a deep breath, but I'm sure I inhale some of it. Just tastes better to me.

Why no go and introduce youself in the new gorilla forum - Welcome to CS. Some people French inhale through the nose once and awhile to get more flavor. Most don't inhale cigar smoke.
