Ashton VSG vs Opus X ?

I just got done reviewing an Ashton VSG for my website - which is one of my favorite cigars to smoke.

But then it got me thinking about the Opus X because of how similar they really are....

And I asked: What do I like better?

I know how "rare" and whatnot the Opus is, and they are great smokes... BUT I really love the VSG because I don't have to pre-order boxes, race to the local B&M, or pay x3 the MSRP price.

Does that make the VSG a better cigar than the Opus? Or does anyone just like the VSG better anyways?

I like fresh Opus & aged VSG's.As far as a favorite of the 2,depends on what mood I'm in at the time.I also get tired of the hunt for Opus.If I like a cigar I want to be able to get what I want when I want it.

I just like the VSG better. The only Opus X I have ever smoked and though "damn this is a great cigar" was the Power Ranger. The rest I just think are over rated. I stopped trying to get them a long time ago.

I really like both, but I'm going to have to go with the VSG on this one. Not because I really think its a better smoke than the Opus, but because of the availability. I can almost always go into a store and find a VSG, but rarely if ever find an Opus. Even if I do find an Opus, its usually at least 2x the MSRP.

I agree with Frank on the fact that having to hunt Opus really takes away from it's "allure" and being able to always get my hands on a good ol' reliable VSG makes it just that much more enjoyable of a smoke. Just my $0.02...

Yeah I think the searching and bartering just for a single Opus just gets me mad....or grumpy and I tend not to enjoy the cigar as much.

I love both cigars but the Opus takes the cake as I am able to score these cigars at cost from a couple of sources that I have had over the years. When you can get them and let them age about 6 months they are a very good cigar. The VSG is good but when you can get them at any cigar place it does make it more popular than the hard to get smokes.

If I could score these at cost, whenever I wanted - I think I would lean towards Opus as well....

Availability is definitely the main deterrent to the Opus X. I've wanted to try them but the hassle to acquire them would drive me crazy. I would rather not smoke them than try it, love it and then not be able to get it again (due to price and/or availability). As for the VSG, I don't really smoke them often but have always enjoyed them when I do.

Honestly, there are just so many great cigars out there that I really enjoy, that I don't feel the need to have every single one on hand. I'm more than happy to kick back w/a DPG/ Tat / Illusione/ Padron/ Gran Habano/ LGC/ CAO/ and so on.....

Never tried an Ashton VSG. I'll have to pick up one this week and try it. I do like the Opus-x's I've tried so far. Haven't had to much trouble finding them so far. My local B&M calls me when they come in.

Opus for me. I can get enough of them to stock up when they hit the stores around here. They usually don't sell out too fast, and I can always get them within $1-$3 of MSRP.

All else being equal, Opus X for me. I prefer that combination of wood/spice that it's so rich with over the VSG's flavor profile, but that's just MHO.

All this thinking about the VSG and Opus makes me want to sit outside (its a nice clear 70 degrees here) and enjoy both.
