48 Hour Thread - Please Put that out
48 Hour thread will only be open for a total of 48 hours then it will be CLOSED before the next 48 hour thread is created.
Ok so I was in Esteli, Nicaragua at Los Chiguetos restaurant in the heart of Tobacco country itself. I was there ordering food with about 8 guys and 2 of us were smoking when a crowd of ladies walked into the restaurant. We were actually seated on the patio of the restaurant were we would not disturb people with the smoke. The ladies middle-aged decided to sit at the table next to us. Three minutes into them sitting down I could hear them talking in spanish about the smoke. The hands raised to cover the noses and they all began to make a fuss. They finally turned around and asked us in spanish to "Please PUT THAT OUT". Personally I was friggin shocked. The community we were in would be near to nonexistent if not for tobacco. I really could not believe they asked us to put it out. Question: What would you say? Remember They asked nicely by saying PLEASE.

I'd just say no and tell them that you were seated here so the smoke wouldn't bother anyone and if the restaurant allows it then technically you do have the right to enjoy your cigar.

I think I would say no as well. They i assume had the option to sit somewhere else? If they choose to sit next to me and then complain about my cigar they are outta luck.

Absolutely 'NO'. You were there first, were courteous enough to sit on the patio and were already smoking when they chose to sit next to you. It's plain and simple in my book. 'Please' is certainly polite but it doesn't change anything.

Definitely NO. I'm in a restaurant that allowed me to smoke, in a city and country that is basically funded by this product and the cigar was lit before they came in so.....No. Please.

I would say No as nice as could and then tell them that they would be more comfortable inside the restaurant.

I would say this cigar was created by as many as 140 people in this community or one like it. If I were to put this out it would be an insult to these hard workers so if you don't mind, could you move to a table that would make you more comfortable?

I would have to agree with the opinions already posted. You guys did the right thing by sitting where you did. Sounds as if they were absolutely clueless about what that cigar means to the economic well-being of the area.
Would you go to the Kentucky derby and complain about smelling horse shit? |

I guess it would depend on how rude they were about it...and how much I was enjoying the cigar.
As a self described gentlemen I would have a difficult time turning down a group of women who phrased a polite request. Please doesn't necessarily cut it, body language, tone of voice, etc...etc... Timing is a question as well... Were you smoking these cigars before they came out? Yes...so they were aware cigar smoke would be present and at that point in time I would suggest they had an opportunity to remove themselves from the situation before they were seated. If you lit these fine stogies up after they arrived, I would take it under consideration, again, if the request was presented in a polite and considerate manner. In this instance, I think I would have politely declined and offered an additional tip to the wait staff if he would assist the ladies in being reseated somewhere the cigar smoke would not bother them.
