Super Dry Stogie Problems.

Guys,

I have a big problem. I had a padron 3000 today that tasted like S&^%$.
My cigars are super dry. The cigar felt like a 2x4. I have a 3 drymistat tubes that don't work worth of s&^%$3. My Digital hydrometer goes as low as 58 and it was recently calibrate. I have a cup of water to try to raise the humidity. It's now 61%.

MY new humidor is been season by the boveda packs and a 1/2 lbs of beads are on the way to control humidity> The seasoning process should be completed by Wednesday next week. The questions is
what can I do with my current cigars ? Would dry cigar go bad on me ? Would they restore the taste once my new humidor gets up and running?

THANK YOU IN ADVANCED FOR YOUR HELP.!
I have a new humidor that's seasoning with a boveda seasoning pack

Toss your cigars in a Ziplock bag or Tupperware container while you wait. If you have a humi-pillow, toss that in as well.

As for your other questions, it's up to chance and a prayer if they are as dry as you say. Good luck on that.

Quick question: Are you sure the drymistat tubes aren't working? How big of a humidor are we talking about, and how many cigars are in there?

As mentioned above, put them in a tupperware type container with a boveda pak, or even a piece or whole sponge dampened with distilled water. Completely dried cigars have lost the oils which provide the flavor, but you won't know that until you try to bring them back. I have found the tubes to be pretty useless on all but the smallest of containers.

Thanks for your help...... MEN MEN MEN " Everything in the cigar world is I agree to disagree" I read 20 different articles with 10 different ways of restoring the cigar back to the original condition. So I chose to take a chance and pick a mix of the best 3 options.

1) I wrapped the cigar on a damp paper towel. ( Distill water )
2) I raise the humidity to 75%. I moved the humidor inside a cabinet where it will have not sun exposure. This morning the temperature was at 68%
3) I took a hot shower this morning> Left the humidor in the bathroom open and closed the lead when I was done and putted back inside the cabinet.

I must admit they look much better that yesterday. Hopefully i can bring them to the original condition since the humidity never went below 58%.........

NOW FOR THE ROOT COST OF THE PROBLEM. The B&M who sold me the tubes told me to drop them in, well I never took the cup of the tubes so no humidity was release out of the tubes. LIVE AND LEARN >>>>>> Hopefully I can recover my LIGA PRIVADA - LA RIQUESA - TATUAJE CABAIGUAN - 1926 PADRON - PERDOMO CHAMPAGNE - The rest are omar ortez and are cheap. Still there's over 100.00 worth of cigar.

Don't push it man! You seem to be on a crash course of restoring them too quickly, which can cause them to crack. But like I said before, it's going to be all up to chance and a prayer. Though to be honest with you, 58% humidity isn't really that horrible. I keep all of mine at ~62-65.

They should be fine if they where at 58%. But even after they get back to good condition they may not be as good as they once was. Good thing is you seemed to have figured out the problem and will be good to go in the near future!

are you sure the tubes are big enough for your humi, go to http://www.heartfeltindustries.com/calculator.asp and make sure you have the proper amount of bead

I have always restored by putting the dried out ones in a ziploc full of holes. Then putting that zip loc in a bigger one that had a lightly damp sponge with distilled water..

Always works.
