Send a cigar back to Thompson?

I just received a sampler from Thompsons and noticed that one of the wrappers is cracked in two places. I've heard that Thompsons customer service is less than stellar, so is it worth it to try and get a replacement or will I just get the run around? Or are they like CI in that they'll take care of it ASAP? Keep in mind, the cigar in question is a Punch, so its a good cigar but not exactly top shelf. Is it worth it?

Oh, and they swapped out the Fuente I was supposed to get for a Montesino. That doesn't seem to be an equal trade.

Thanks

Re: Send a cigar back to Thompson?

My first order ever was from Thompson. I wanted to return the sticks, but then realized it wasn't worth the hassle.

They will take back the product BUT they will not refund shipping. You pay the shipping to you, and the shipping back. If your didn't make a big order then you wind up paying as much as you paid for the sticks, or more. Especially if you paid for rush shipping.

That's also lame that they gyped you on a premium stick. I suggest ordering from a more respected company in the future.

It wouldn't hurt to ask them to make it right. JR sent me a whole box of cigars after they messed up and sent me a box with the wrong wrapper (conn vs. maduro), and I got to keep the "mistake" box for free!

So email them or whatever and maybe they'll work with you. If they don't want to play, vote with your wallet and shop elsewhere in the future!

Thanks for your input guys, I'll shoot them an email and see what they say. But if I had to pay for shipping I should probably just live with it.

Re: Send a cigar back to Thompson?

Reading this board I've seen alot of bad press on Thompson...I've made several orders with them and never had a problem.

I once messed up and double faxed an order, then thinking it hadn't gone through, ordered something similar on the internet. When I realized what I had done I called them and they were great about it. I told em' which order I wanted and which I didn't, they had me turn the unwanted order back around when it arrived with the included label and refunded my credit card.

That said a friend here had trouble getting a humi he ordered from them.

Let us know how your case works out.

I would call customer service and try to get some new cigars or your money back. Perhaps you could even take a picture of it and e-mail it to them. It's at least worth a shot. Whether or not you want to do business with them again is strictly up to you, but it's my general opinion that you can get better cigars for better prices elsewhere like famous. I hope it turns out well for you, keep us informed.

I agree with HotStuff,,,we are the consumers and if we don't say anything then we deserve what we get. If there is a mistake on their part then they should pay shipping on the bad product,,,both ways. If they do not do that then let them know that your next order will be with their competitors. There are far too many other companies that will do the right thing in regards to Customer Service.

Re: Send a cigar back to Thompson?

Personally, I would just chalk this one up as a loss and move on. It's not worth the time and effort to worry about a couple of sticks with this vendor. And with so many good vendors out there, don't order again from Thompsons.

Thank you all for your input, I really appreciate it! I think I'll send them an email and see what they'll do for me, but given that its just a punch and all the other sticks were ok (minus the fuente sub for a Montesino), I'll probably let it slide unless they seem like they'll work with me. But this was educational about Thompsons customer service.

Thanks again guys

Re: Send a cigar back to Thompson?

Especially in a community like this one, word - bad or good - gets out quickly. You would think that someone from Thompson's would read what is being said about the company, go back and make some changes. Apparently they are satisfied that their customer service sucks, and they are constantly having to shill for new customers as existing ones leave after they learn that there are far better options out there. Personally I had much rather have a bunch of satisfied customers doing my marketing for me in places like this than have to spend tons on advertising.
