A morning smoker

It has been a slow process over the years, one of attrition and yet one of necessity. But it has come at last. I find now that I have been reduced to a morning smoker. Out of 100 cigars, 95 will be smoked in the morning with my coffee. Occasionally, I will have one at midday, at the local cigar store, and on even rarer occasions I will smoke one after an evening meal (perhaps 2 or 3 times a year, if I'm lucky). I think this fact contributes to my increasing fondness for mild cigars, those creamy and mellow cigars suitable for a morning smoke, cigars such as Butera, Por Larranaga, Macanudo, Ashton classic line, Davidoff, et al. If any of you fine fellow lovers of the leaf know of other cigars you think suitable for my morning smoke, please feel free to let me know. I will appreciate it. Eventually, when I procure my smoking room, things will change, and I will indulge more heavily in cigars of choice, cigars such as my ageing Padron 64's and 26's, my handful of Cubans (Bolivars and Esplendidos, sneaked back home from a cruise to Cozumel), my RPs, and my other sundry cigars of strength. But for now, I content myself -- very happily -- with their lesser brothers. Thank you.

Re: A morning smoker

I smoke in the mornings on my days off, weekends and holidays, and once a year I pull two weeks of night shift. Strong smokes really whack my taste buds for hours, so I prefer the mild smokes in the morning. The two I keep going back to are the 5 Vegas Gold, and the Slow-Aged Perdomo. I find them both to have that mild-mellow-creamy factor that I like, but with enough character to still be interesting. I just got a box of the Gold Nuggets ($37!) yesterday, which I'm looking forward to trying on Saturday, see if I like them as much as I do the torpedo.

Re: A morning smoker

I only had one morning smoke experience in the past year. It was a sunday morning in Sept. The coffee was good and strong, the breeze felt right and the Cusano 18 Double Connecticut smoked just fine.

Re: A morning smoker

I smoke a cigar every M-F during my morning commute.
I prefer CT shade style wrappers in the AM.
Cigars in my regular rotation:
Perdomo Champagne
Rocky Patel Signature
Famous Nicuraugan 2000 CT Robusto (great budget stick)
Nub (the one with the CT shade wrapper)

Re: A morning smoker

While I normally cannot tolerate an infused cigar I have enjoyed the Tabak Especial Negra - it has to be the Negra with the dark wrapper that is sweetened only once (the natural get's it twice and is quite sweet) and in the larger size, 6 x 52 ish. Has a shaggy foot.
Nice sweet flavor up front that dissipates throughout the smoke, I really enjoy the last 2/3rds. It's a great Sunday morning smoke with coffee and a newspaper.

Re: A morning smoker

I am usually not a morning smoker but when I do smoke early I prefer either a Fuente 8-5-8 or a Macanudo Maduro.

Re: A morning smoker

I love my morning cigar with my coffee. To me nothing goes better with coffee than a coffee infused cigar in the morning. Right now, during the week, I smoke 1/3 of an Isla del Sol Churchill with my first cup of coffee, smoke the next 1/3rd on my ride into work. then finish it in the parking lot with my second cup. On weekends I enjoy a Mayorga H2000 with my 2 cups.

Re: A morning smoker

I have several Butera, Por Larranaga, and Dunhill to trade for stronger smokes if you like.

Let me know....

Re: A morning smoker

I enjoy a smoking in the mornings, great way to start the day.....

During the week, I've recently started smoking my pipe with a cup of coffee before work, but during the weekend when time allows, a cigar and a little coffee is hard to beat in the mornings.

I think tobacco and coffee are a perfect pairing...
