Wondering where everyone is on their slope

Since the mergers and the influx of new and the goodbyes from some FOGs I have notice a shift in the cigar intrests and the place that the board as an average appears to be on the Cigar "slope".

Prior to the merge many were posting that they were selling their NCs and buying up Cubans. For awhile it seemed to be the trend and more and more were moving to 90 % + Cubans.

In an attempt to understand us all and what our intrests are and get to know the board as a whole better I was wondering if we could all post where we were are on the slope and where our main intrests lie in cigars.

Of course if you don't fit in my pigeon holes please post. I would also love to hear a quick post about your cigar history.

I switched about 5+ years ago from only Habanos to only Domestics. With the emergence of that deep, rich Nicaraguan tobacco, I'm good!

Re: Wondering where everyone is on their slope

The non-Cuban manufacturers have some great stuff. I'm at about 20% Cuban and have been that way for a few years. Even if the embargo were lifted I'd probably stay that way...

Re: Wondering where everyone is on their slope

Probably 50/50. I think that one is as good as the other, just a different flavor profile.

BTW my 50/50 is pretty much 50% DPG stuff and 50% Cuban.

I will say that there is a slight budgetary difference between Squid® and Mrs Squid®... I think a yearly cigar budget of ten thousand dollars would be fair; and she thinks ten bucks is about right! HAW!

The only CC that I have smoked were when I was traveling in the UK. I do not know how to get while I am in the US.

Re: Wondering where everyone is on their slope

I guess I've had about 20 CCs over the years. When I travel to somewhere they are legal, I almost feel obligated to have a few. While I have really enjoyed them, there are dozens of NCs that I like just as much. I just don't feel like I'm being deprived in any way. I don't buy CCs for the same reason I don't set off fireworks. Not because it's illegal, but because the benefit-to-(potential)hassle ratio isn't high enough to tempt me. If the embargo were ever lifted, and the prices weren't completely insane because of it, I would 'dabble' in the CCs, but I honestly wouldn't be willing to give up any of my NC favorites to do it.

Re: Wondering where everyone is on their slope

Being a US citizen buying Cubans is a no go. However, I have been gifted a few and to be honest I have only found one that I found to be OK. It didnt wow me but it was good. It was a Monti #2. Other than that I have not been impressed by Cubans. I've been smoking cigars for 16 years but only got serious about them in the last six.

Re: Wondering where everyone is on their slope

Smoking cigars about 35 yrs, and buy and smoke about 35 boxes plus singles and samplers a year. I smoke mostly NCs, and most of those are Nicaraguans. If the final version of SCHIP, and increasing labor costs in Central America cause the price of NCs to dramatically increase, my balance may well change.

90% Cubans, 10% Nicaraguans. Have free access to both, smoke NC's as a change of pace.

Re: Wondering where everyone is on their slope

I've smoked maybe a dozen CC's in my lifetime and they never really floated my boat. But that was years ago when I didn't now my a$$ from a hole in the ground about cigars. If they ever lift the embargo, I will give them another go.

I buy mostly NC's and find some of the Nicaraguans out there as good as anything I've smoked. Most of the Cubans I get come from a few well-traveled friends as gifts.
