A Question of Strength...

What cigars knock you on your ash?

I've been smoking for 15 years and I've had a lot of gars over that time, but there are still a few smokes that knock me for a loop.

Okay, maybe I'm a wuss, but I admit that a few of those La Flor Dominica's and the Camacho Triple Maduro pack a hell of a wallop. I love the taste of both, especially the Trip Mad, but I swear I've caught a buzz from these bad boys more than once.

What gars give you a kick in the cojones?

I'd second the Joya de Nic Antano 1970 beli as having good, managable power. I am currently loving the CAO Brazilia's. Great power, but with some more sophisticated notes. Unlike the Comacho Triple Maddie, which I find flat and something of a "one trick pony". If you want a good wallop, with good flavor, any of the 90+ rated CAO's will deliver in spades! A better maddie than the Comacho, IMO, is the CAO MX2. Tremendous strength and a LOT more going on than the Triple. For something really spectacular, try to find an AF Anejo. YMMV

Re: A Question of Strength...

Have never suffered any ill effects from a cigar, but from a nicotine standpoint, an Anejo 48 always gives my the hiccups about halfway in from the nicotine hit.

On an empty stomach - Opus xXx PR
On a full stomach - JdNA Gran Consoul.
I smoke the Belicoso for breakfast, but the GC kills me.

Re: A Question of Strength...

The two most commonly mentioned would be the JdN Antano and the LFD Double Ligero. But the Litto Gomez Diez Chisel is a step above both.
I love the TM's, especially the 11/18 size.

The LFD Double Ligero had me break out in a cold sweat one night. On an empty stomach, that gar can put you into la-la land.

I had an Onyx once, don't remember the details, that was too strong for my inexperience. It even burned my lips? Have stayed away from those for now.

Re: A Question of Strength...

JdN Antano for sure.

I also got my ass kicked recently by a Savinelli Rico y Raro cigar. The writeup on Savinelli's website claims 2 and a half leaves of ligero in each cigar, and I believe them. I was still light-headed an hour after smoking it.

Re: A Question of Strength...

Anyone try that new Rocky "Winter Collection". It's a maddy, which I don't care for, but the filler seemed quite strong? Someone said it reminded him of the original Edge?

Don "Pepin" Garcia..JJ Madura..especially on an empty stomach with a libation....took me 2 roast beef sandwiches and a half bag of M&m's to get past it...whew..
Had one last night ona full stomach though..not near the punch, just a good tastin' cigar for playing poker. (came home with $15 more than I left with..not a bad night!)

Re: A Question of Strength...

Up untill about a year ago I would have had to say a JDN Antano' would do it. But for some reason my tolerance has really gone up. This week I've had an LFD Salomon, two LFD Double Ligeros, an LG Diez and a Tat Cojonu 2003 and none of them affected me.

Go Figure.
