RP OWR - My Strobe Light Honey
Recently tried a RP OWR maduro robusto from a box that I bought about a year ago. Not a huge fan of the RP line, but these just looked so damn delicious. Had one out of the box in early 2008 and was very uninspired, but I "knew" these would do well with age. After a year of quality age, they were screaming at me again - dark, oily, beautifully constructed, great cocoa aroma...just a damn beautiful cigar. Even the packaging and band are elegant. Mouth watering to look at.
However, after having a few the last couple of days, I must say this is one of those classic cases of a "strobe light honey." I mean she really looked smokin from across the club with the strobelights going, tight dress, amazing body,.... but dammmmmn, when we got to the lobby and the light....yikes.
Not a bad cigar really, but just did not taste anything like what it looked like. I imagined it was going to be like smoking coffee beans dipped in belgium chocolate, but instead it was a mild, one-dimensional, slightly acrid, florally spiced gar with burn problems. Nothing like the uber-rich, deep smoke I coveted. It even smelled great, prelight and post-light had rich aromas of cocoa powder and milk chcolate. However, burn problems aside, the flavor was just underwhelming and the tatse just did not do the sexy "little-black-dress" of a wrapper any justice! I've read a number of reviwers compare this, even favorably, to PAM 1926 or 64, but I don't get that at all.
Any of you gentlemen have any strobe light honey cigars lately- the ones that look like they belong in a museum but taste like they should be in a Chevron station on the outskirts of Houston?
