Local B&M Humi at 82% humidity

Last night on my school lunch break I went to a local B&M and I don’t go there much because I bought a bad cigar, but I was bored so went to check them out again. They have a great selection and their humidor is along one side of the store, but it looks like it was built from old pallets and very thin glass. I did not open any of the doors I was just looking at the cigars through the glass and at the very end of the humidor and I finally see the digital hygrometer and it displays 82% humidity and 75 degrees. I thought these cigars are going to have beetles pouring out of them. I know I should have said something but I could tell these guys did not care, so i did not bother. Just thought I'd share this story because their are people out there who don't take care of their cigars and will sell them to people who don't know any better.

Re: Local B&M Humi at 82% humidity

We have a smoke shop in the middle of the mall that is like walking into a Tropical storm with their humidity around 85++++

All their prices are more then anywhere else, and you can tell they buy all their product from Cigars International since it is the only B&M that carries CI Legend series!

Mind warning us where this B&M is located? Its not talking bad if you are merely stating the facts.

Re: Local B&M Humi at 82% humidity

There's one just like this down in Redondo Beach, CA that I went to maybe two months ago....I couldn't believe it...huge selection of smokes but every other one was MOLDY & I pointed out beetle holes in a few so that the poor bastard could save the rest. I haven't been back so who knows what happened.

I just couldn't believe the guy would seriously be trying to sell MOLDY sticks like that. And it wasn't even discreet, like a little mold here & there; it was everywhere!

There was one like that in Ontario, California. They had concrete stepping stones as flooring, and it was always soaking wet. Everything in there was always too wet to smoke and half the stock was covered in mold. They closed for good last month.

There is a descent store in Old Town Torrance. Not much of a selection the last time I was there, but the took care of their cigars.

Absolutely agree with 'ya Andy, although I must say that on Sunday when I drove by, I was saddened to see the place all closed up...I'm not sure if they're closed on Sundays or if they've gone under but I wouldn't be surprised. I liked the joint, was the first B&M I went into & the guy there loaned me an awesome book, "How to Select & Enjoy Premium Cigars" but it was mostly empty on some recent visits, including the humidor.

I love my local B&M up in Rolling Hills called 'Huckleberry's'; the guy there keeps his smokes perfectly and they've got a great lounge if you're ever back in the hood. And if you are, I better know about it and we better meet up!

You probably should of told them anyway and that was the reason why you didn't buy anything from them. If they are losing sales because of the haphazard way they treat their cigars, who knows maybe it would eventually sink in.

The local B&M that I frequent in Medina Oh. is an old converted house and their humi is probably the old living room. It is huge! There selection is great and the staff is very knowledgeable. I did notice that when I went into the humi that the cigars cellos are covered with a light dew. I thought "oh great they are over humidified". When I found and checked their hygro., it read 65%. I have never had any issues with the burn with any of their gars that I have smoked on premises. A real class act!

I'm sorry I didn't read anything in this thread (just kidding!) but I did want to know what the shirt on that girl in your avatar (Coop D)says...

Relative humidity is just that; relative. 70% at 70 degrees and 71@69 72@68 and etc am I right? Cigars age very well at temperatures below 70, and I believe I've read that Opus are aged at 58% humidity... But 80+ humidity as is the case here is just too high, hands down. Unless they never calibrated there hygrometers, or never checked them against anything to see if they're accurate. Even digitals need to be checked often.
