Cigar Friendly Places in Detroit?
So embarrassingly enough, I checked CigarPlaces.com (my site) this morning for a cigar friendly restaurant in Detroit (20 minutes from where I live), and it's pretty void of locations!
I'm meeting a business associate in Detroit this evening for dinner and a stogie, and I need to find some restaurants that are cigar friendly. Any ideas? |

Re: Cigar Friendly Places in Detroit?
I would say go to dinner at one of the restaurants in the MGM Casino. And cigar smoking is allowed anywhere in the casino. I'm not sure about in the restaurants but for sure on the casino floor or at the bars there you can have a cigar.

Re: Cigar Friendly Places in Detroit?
MGM has a great cigar lounge in one of its bars, called Ignite. It is a separate room that is usually not very crowded. Cocktails are reasonably priced. The wolfgang puck restaurant in the casino is pretty good too for dinner.
Are you planning on being in downtown detroit, or in the outlying suburbs? Depending on your answer, I probably can come up with a few other suggestions. |

Re: Cigar Friendly Places in Detroit?
Happy to help, enjoy! I have to get over there again sometime soon for a smoke. The cold has really cut into my smoking.

We ended up at Fishbone's in the Greektown Casino (which is cigar friendly), then we walked over to Hard Rock. There was an event there that we were going to. At Hard Rock I asked our waitress if people could smoke cigars there. She said she'd find out for us. She came back a few minutes later and said that we could, then another guy that was waiting on us also said it was fine. No longer than two minutes after I had lit my cigar I had another waitress come up to us and tell us that there's "no cigar smoking in here!!" You can imagine the look that she got. ![]() We came to find out that the manager had made a "special exception" for us because we were nice enough to ask. That was cool to hear. Interesting experience. |

Re: Cigar Friendly Places in Detroit?
Glad to hear things worked out for you. I didn't realize that fishbones was cigar friendly, though I did know about Greektown.
Its funny, I had a similar situation to the one you experienced at Hard Rock at a bar in Ann Arbor a couple of years ago. Mine didn't turn out as well. We asked before we sat down if we could smoke cigars. It was a condition of our going in there. The hostess said yes, absolutely. So 8 of us sit down, order drinks and light up cigars. Then our waitress comes over and tells us we can't smoke them. I told her we were allowed and the hostess came over and said she had told us we could. The manager was the tie breaker I guess, and he said we couldn't. So we got up and left and walked with our cigars to an establishment which allowed them. We drank a lot that night, so that bar lost out on a big check. |
