Bobalu - Austin, TX
Not really a review, since i'm not really a person who can pick up on all the flavors coming out of a cigar when I smoke. But I headed down to Bobalu here in Austin on 6th street on Saturday to check them out. Their operation is small, they have about 6 rollers on site (all of whom are from Cuba if I understood correct). I was there for a few hours tring some of their cigars, and watching the roller. I gotta say, that was pretty cool. I tried 2 of their cigars. The frist was their Orange Label Super Fuerte Criollo. It consisted of a Nicaraguan Cirollo wrapper, Honduran binder and Honduran/Nicaraguan filler. I gotta say that was the best one I smoked while I was there. The other was a Honduran Corojo that I didn't find so good. But anyways, if your ever in Austin you should really check them out. I've decided to get a box or two from them soon.

Re: Bobalu - Austin, TX
I used to make it to Austin regularly when I live there. Now, I don't know when I will get there. This is like the third time I have read about this place. I am interested to see what it is all about. Maybe one day I will get there. Nice pics. DOF is nicely done.

Re: Bobalu - Austin, TX
When I get a box, i'll gladly send a one out to ya'll to try. I suspect i'll be heading back downtown this week if all looks well in the bank.
Thanks, i'm kinda a camera geek, so i'll be talking alot of pics of what I smoke. I ment to get some pics of the rollers while I was there, but on my return trip back, they were on break I think. |

40D, thats a nice camera from the small time I have played with it. The only thing stopping me from buying a Canon is that I have glass for Olympus and Nikon. As you probably, once you buy the glass, youre pretty much committed to that setup. Which I do enjoy by the way. As offered above, I will glady do a trade with you. If that is cool, just let me know when you have the time and get more cigars. Thanks. zitro

Re: Bobalu - Austin, TX
We have a small factory here south of Houston (having a Herf there in a couple weeks) the owner's father (Cuiban immigrant) is the blender and they have 1 roller. El Cubano ..they have a nice selection at good prices..most in the $4-6 range. Manny is going to have some pre-rolled, without the wrapper and let us pick the wrapper and complete the roll and put the cap on..should be pretty cool.

Re: Bobalu - Austin, TX
Cool.....I just stopped in here on my trip to Austin last weekend and the very helpful gal working there hooked me up with one of their fresh-rolled Texan no-label cigars....I really really liked it and it had a smell to it (the cigar, not the aroma) that was rather intoxicating...it was a Robusto, rather light in color and sweet smelling. I kept sniffing the actual cigar from pre-cut all the way through to the nub.
I'm considering ordering some more. You should some of those out! |
