You bet!! As soon as BHO was elected I knew this day was right around the corner, so I got on the devil site and JR and Famous and stocked up on every day 'gars and mid-range priced smokes. The expensive stuff will be affected less percent-wise so I haven't gotten too much of those. I had to take a break in February when my checking account went into the minus! I'll be back for one last splurge in March. I also got some pipe tobacco and a couple pipes for late night smoking when it won't pay any more to waste a half cigar. Just a quick pipe bowl and I'm good.So now I've got two coolerdors full, one that I can barely lift , 2 humidors and several tupperdors. I wonder if I am overdoing it?

Will be buying in the next week or so...I know those poor 25yr old kids in families that make up to 100 grand will be suffering but thats the way it goes.

Sick Re: Stocking UP....and the SCHIP tax...

I've been stocking up a little, but nothing crazy. I'm just curious to see how this all unfolds. There's already a 5 cent cap on cigars. This increase is to the cap amount to 40 cents, so it's a 35 cent increase. That tax gets added to cigars as they come into the U.S. Then that cigar gets sent to the state it will be sold in and that price (including the TAX) get's TAXED. So they're taxing the tax+cigar cost at the state level. And then any county taxes get added, which is ALSO taxing the tax. So a 2.00 cigar is now 2.35, and then the state see's 2.35 not 2.00 and taxes the 2.35 and so on. So in many ways, it's a 3 fold increase on taxes. That and that Honduras' wages just went up something like 50% too. And Chiusano I believe said for him, 40% of the cost of a cigar is labor.

Yes, I've been going a little nuts lately stocking up with the idea I'm gonna save some dough in the long run. Like today I got a box of Perdomo Patriarch from Mike's that came with a nice 10-smoke sampler & free shipping! Running out of room in my humis though...

Re: Stocking UP....and the SCHIP tax...

I have been on a cigar buying frenzy since last Dec. I must have spent over $500.00 since that time. I'm probably finished with the last two boxes of Oliva's due in tomorrow. I think I'm pretty well stocked now. I need to quit for now so that the Mrs can stock up on some bags of loose tobaccy for her cigs. I have heard that bags of loose tobaccy is going up from $17.00 a lb to over $50.00 a lb. That's ! Just think of the taxes that Pres Osama would have contributed if they would have gone after Alchohol instead of tobacco.

Re: Stocking UP....and the SCHIP tax...

Been meaning to stock up but haven't really got around to it yet...a couple of boxes.

Bought and am seasoning a new 'dor in anticipation of the influx, though.

Anyone know of any mind-boggling deals that could spur me to get buying, point me their way. I'm on a limited budget so I've reigned in the urge to impulse buy and am now out for the best deals I can find whilst still stocking up appropriately.

Hasn't changed my buying habits. I have a pretty big supply. I could smoke a cigar every day for 2-3 years without ever having to rebuy.

At least alchohol is tied to violence, DUIs, deaths caused by DUIs, and a load of other terrible things caused by the irresponsible use of it. Don't get me wrong either, my business is in alchohol. Without it I would have nothing. Now here's my point. Smoking a cigar doesn't do a thing to you that would cause harm to anyone but yourself-- and that's only when it's done in excess over a long period of time (like EVERYTHING else). If he were to tax the crap out of booze, I would understand better. And let's face it, this SCHIP thing was going to happen eventually no matter who was in office.

I've made this argument to so many people, man.

There's such a witch hunt against tobacco and tacit approval of alcohol, despite its well-publicized ill effects. It's such a double standard.

We're all painfully aware that overindulging in tobacco greatly increases your risk of cancer. Great, we get it. When are they going to start massive hundred-million-dollar+ ad campaigns warning kids about the dangers of alcohol use? When are they going to try to scare kids into never taking a sip of alcohol? Why won't they tell kids that overindulging in alcohol will ruin your liver and make you fat and give you a heart attack? It's sheer ridiculousness.

Tobacco and alcohol are both substances with potential for abuse and ill effects. I'd argue that alcohol abuse and the ill consequences of it are much more rampant than those of tobacco, but you don't see the kind of public flogging of alcohol that you do of tobacco. It's really maddening.

Yea, I don't get it. You never hear about Big Booze, or Big Beer, it's always Big Tobacco! The lives that are ruined by alcoholism rival, by far, the health issues of tobacco. Not even the health concerns alone about alcohol, but the ruined lives of multiple generations. The slaughter on the highways. But there is not the same vitriol against drinkers.
The reason is the smoke itself. If someone is sitting at a bar drinking himself to death, there is no ugly haze of alcoholic fumes to signal his imminent demise. But if I sit down next to him to smoke my weekly cigar, the entire bar will rise up and run me out of the place, call the cops and have me arrested. It's insanity right here amongst us. The inmates are running the ******.

I had been doing quite a bit of buying but not because of the tax,,,just was getting quite a few good deals and it all worked out. I am stocked for the next couple of years.
