Re: Cubans?
If I could easily acquire them here in the US I'd probably keep a few dozen on hand but wouldn't replace any of my non-Cuban favorites. The idea that "any Cuban is a great cigar that is light years ahead of any non-Cuban" is just silly.

Re: Cubans?
I haven't smoked more than maybe 50 or so CC's (so I cannot call myself an expert) but I have to say that the cigar industry has progressed so far that there are a bevy of NC's that can contest and even best some of the best CC's (Padron's immediately come to mind)
Cigar Man Andy has a point...there are Great/Good/Eh cigars, be it Cuban or Non. The one thing I can cite is a fairly noticeable difference in taste that CC's have. As far as CC's I'm a fan of the Ramon Allones Specially Selected/Ramon Allones Small Club Corona for a nice morning or mid-day smoke. Siglo VI's are great and Monte #2's are very good, though can suffer from some consistency issues here and there. |

Re: Cubans?
Everyone has a taste for what they like,,,I even know some who think drugstore cigars are the best. What it comes down to is you,,,what you like and what your preference is regardless where it comes from. We don't have the same sense of smell or taste and it gets comical when some diehards start trying to rationalize what cigar is the best and what cigar is the worse. It is a personal opinion on everybodys taste and we should always remember this when comparing one cigar with another. I respect peoples taste in what they like or what their preference is but when they tend to take their own opinion too seriously and start taking someone to task for liking a Gurkha or any other name brand out there it just doesn't make sense from an objective point of view,,,we're all different. just my 2 cents

Re: Cubans?
My experience is PSD4s are good out of the box. Cubans just have a distinctive flavor profile that just can't be duplicated with tobacco grown elsewhere. Cuba uses most the tobacco they can grow on quality land, so they tend to ship young, not fully cured cigars. Most the Cubans I have had tend to be a bit rougher looking, and with more QC problems than their NC counterparts. Two to three per box unsmokable is not uncommon.
I like the CC flavor, but my regular smokes are Nicaraguan puros, which in general are heavier and stronger than CCs. |

Re: Cubans?
I smoke "actual Cubans" all the time, and like the others said, some will be orgasmic, some will be okay and some will be dog rockets. The Romeo y Julieta Romeo No. 2 isn't the best cigar of the bunch. I like them, but they're machine-bunched little guys and not meant to be mind-blowing. Assuming the Cubans you have access to are even real, I would get Montecristo No. 2s or Partagas Serie P No. 2s. Two cigars that are great even fresh, and awesome aged.
You asked about Davidoff...not Cuban, but the Millenium is a very good cigar. Expensive as all get-out though. |

I've had good experiences with some of the smaller Romeo Tubos #2 and #3's, but they are not my favorite. I would suggest making sure you can trust who you are buying from before you purchase anything else. As far as Davidoff is concerned, you will pay some coin just for singles. Cuban Davidoffs went out of production at the end of the 80s, maybe early 90s.

I have smoked a number of cuban cigars and the quality of cigars being produced elsewhere is so high now that Cuban cigars are not the exceptional smoke anymore. Now of course the vintage/pre castro pre embargo are suppose to be the best cigars in the world. Unfortunately I have yet to justify the $750 it would cost to smoke ONE pre embargo RJ Tubo at the local cigar shop. I do wonder what a padron 80th a AVO 80th or an Opus will taste like with 30+ years of growing wise in a humidor. But anyway, my favorite cuban is a Montechristo No.2. |

Yes I agree and the Partagas is an awesome cigar. I just smoked a Bolivar robusto that was good. Yes the Davidoff's Cuban production stopped a number of years ago. Those are scoring really well now if by some chance in hell you get a real one. Unless you are deployed in Asia or Europe its not likely. |
