Re: Cubans?

well several people on this forum smoke cubans. that said the general rule of thumb for cubans is that they are goign to need AT LEAST a years age before they smoke well, probably 5-10 years before they hit peak, depending on the cigar.

that said, i'm a noob in the cuban world with small exceptions, but thats what i keep hearing.

I thought most cigars were already aged before they hit the shelf!

Re: Cubans?

I haven't had that many, but I've had some that were outstanding and some that were just ok (same brands and type).

I by no means is an expert when it comes to CC's but from my reading, I understand to truly appreciate what CC's have to offer they need to be aged for awhile. Depending on who makes the cigar, the type, and how they are stored will determine (not an exact science) how long they should be aged to appreciate what they have to offer. Those that have more experience please correct me if I'm off base with this.

Out of curiosity, what did you end up getting?

I just read James Suckling's blog comparing a 1998 Partagas 898 to a 2008. He was a big fan of the 2008 but not the 1998.

Re: Cubans?

from what i understand and i may be wrong, but cuban cigars are rolled 'young' and thus need aging. so when they hit shelves, they still need to age. most other cigars(dominican republic for example are rolled 'aged' so while they may improve with age, they are more likely to be great out of the box.

and i would suggest cohiba siglo's. a great great line of cigars!

I have had one siglio VI and it was pretty good. I actually have another one here in my humidor, and i plan on buying 6-10 more tomorrow.
Another brand i am interested in is Davidoff. Do you know anything about them.

Re: Cubans?

It doesn't matter if it is a Cuban (ISOM), or from the DR, Honduras, Nicaragua or where ever. They all have great cigars and they all have dog rockets.

Some of the best cigars in the world that I love are:
Opus X and God of Fire - Dominican Republic
Padron 1926 Serie 80th - Nicaragua
Oliva Serie V Maduro - Honduras
Bolivar Belicoso Fina - ISOM

The cigars that I have tried and don't like:
Macanudo Hyde Park - Dominican Republic
Nat Sherman - Nicaragua
Rocky Patel Classic Robusto - Honduras
Jose Piedra - ISOM

Dog Rockets:
Dark Shark Corona - Dominican Republic
MISTER B - Nicaragua
Pirate’s Gold - Honduras
