Re: V Cut

If I'm smoking a full bodied stick I use a standard crosscut, which I do by standing the cigar on a flat surface inside the cutter. This way I always get an even shave and not too deep. If It's a milder stick I use the punch or the vee cutter because it concentrates the smoke. I use them all regularly. It's also noteworthy that I don't chomp my cigars. Any cut will become a mess if you do.

I think I read in another thread around here somewhere that the other end is used to cut the box seal and the little notch is for prying out the nail holding the lid down.

Yep. It's a box opener.

The one at the tip is the V cut, the side is straight cut. The back end is a box opener. German technology.

Re: V Cut

Being still some what of a newbie myself and over cutting being a concern I use a V-cut on all of my cigars well except torpedo's.

Re: V Cut

Never tried the V-cut, I'm not sure I would even notice a difference so I stick with the guilliotine.

Re: V Cut

I stopped using my Xikar once I got my cigar scissor. Cheapo $1.50 scissor from China, and it takes off the cap with 3 skimming cuts rather than cutting the filler straight down (I hope that makes sense). So I lose only the smallest amount from the cut.

Also, even with the guillotine cut, unless you cut like 1/2 an inch off or so, I don't see how you can unravel your cigar.

Re: V Cut

I use my Xikar Xi and my Palio. I love them both. I also use on occasions a punch cutter for the bigger ring gauges.
