Did i do something wrong!!!!!!!!

I went to my local b&m bought one of my favorite cigars rocky patel maduro edge. I was pushed for time so i cut off a little more then I should because of the time factor ,the cigar had no pull and was a sucky smoke I didnt even finish it.Now the question that I have is did I ruin this go to smoke by cutting to much off it or was it just a sh!!Y smoke that i should complain about. Can cutting a cigar shorter than regular affect the pull of the cigar.

Re: Did i do something wrong!!!!!!!!

Hey there Paul - Instead of cutting the cigar shorter, I would have cut normally and smoked it until I had to go. As I understand it, cigars are rolled in a specific manner to best smoke as they are. If you cut the sucker in half, well, you're kinda ruining the very construction you need to have in order for it to smoke correctly and provide you with all the yummy goodness not to mention the proper draw. Right fellas?

Re: Did i do something wrong!!!!!!!!

Cutting too much off shouldn't make the draw tighter but quite the opposite. My concern with that would be having the wrapper unravel when you cut off too much! My guess is you got a bad smoke!

I think I took Paul's issue to be that the cigar was too loose, no draw just like sucking air through a straw vs. sucking a milkshake...but I could be wrong.

Re: Did i do something wrong!!!!!!!!

B&Ms typically keep their humidity higher than most people like to smoke. It is not uncommon for it to be 70%+. You have to keep in mind that they have to compensate for the door to the walk in being opened on a regular basis, letting some humidity escape. Combine that with the fact that you are talking about a maduro wrapper, which typically holds humidity more than others and smokes better at a lower humidity, I think your experience is explained.

The cut shouldn't affect the draw the way you described. If anything, a larger cut should cause a looser draw.

Aaahh, the edge. I have found that it can either be the best 5 dollar cigar youve ever had or the worst any priced cigar that Ive ever had. Cutting it to much should have made it billow smoke like a chimney until it started to unravel in your mouth. My best guess is you got a bad stick.

Re: Did i do something wrong!!!!!!!!

Cutting off to much should not make the draw hard, that really makes no sense to me. I agree with BigCat, sounds like maybe the humidity was too high. Do you offten smokes cigars right off the sheleve from there. If so then more then likely it was a bad stick. Which would be no surprise, it can happen to any company at any time. They are a hand made product.

Re: Did i do something wrong!!!!!!!!

I say try another one, it's worth it! I like this cigar and have never had a problem with it drawing too tight... although I'm with every one else in thinking that cutting it too far would make the draw more loose than tight.

First time it happened? I think I'd consider it a fluke and buy another one. Things happen.

Re: Did i do something wrong!!!!!!!!

i think SmoknTaz hit the nail on the head the only thing cutting to short might do is cause the wrapper to fall apart.

If it was a B&M tell them you got a bad stick. A good B&M will give you a free replacement.
