Those are good cigars, but they aren't maduro

My favorite actually. Somebody here wrote that it wasn't a maduro.....I believe it is. There are a number of shades of maduro including EMS a not-so-dark wrapper and (pardon my poor spelling) ossuro which is the darkest (black)

It's still not. It's oscuro in color, but it's neither oscuro or maduro, and it doesn't claim to be. They call it "sun grown."

I'm sure with all your posts, you know more that I do about cigars. I was going by these type of description:

"The highly rated Partagas Black Label cigar is a very dark, attractive cigar, yet don’t let that fool you as it is also as creamy and smooth a smoke as you will ever taste in a Maduro. In order to create Partagas Black Label, Daniel Nuñez and his colleagues spent 10 years perfecting the Medio Tempo wrapper and the La Vega Especial binder. Cuban-seed Medio Tempo wrappers are darker, heavier and richer than other wrappers because they are harvested only after they have been allowed to age on their plants 50% longer than other wrapper leaves. These tobaccos and a larger ring gauge translate into a richer, fuller-bodied flavor"

Re: Whats your favourite wrapper

It is called a Maduro at many sites, I didn't go to the Partagas website (don't even know if they have one) but considering the other places I have seen it called a Maduro then I think its a Maduro. And yes they do come any many different shades of colors and from different kinds of wrappers. Maduro is a term used because of a certain process that leaf has gone thru.

Re: Whats your favourite wrapper

I think a lot of the confusion we're seeing in this thread is from mixing things up. Of course, with the thread title being, "what is your favorite wrapper," they are all valid responses. The confusion seems to stem from mixing terms from type of tobacco, how it was grown, and how it was cured and fermented. I hope this can serve to clear things up a little.

Types of tobacco:
Habano broadleaf
Sumatra
Camaroon
Connecticut broadleaf
Criollo
Corojo

Growth method:
Shade grown
Sun grown

Curing/fermentation (color of the finished leaf):
candela
colorado
natural
rosado
maduro
oscuro

So, something described as sun grown can certainly be a maduro. It can just as easily be a natural. It all depends on how long it's fermented.

I haven't listed every type of tobacco or every wrapper color, but this should be enough to give everyone the idea.

There's another group of descriptors that could make things even more confusing. These are used to describe what part of the plant the leaves come from. These are Ligero, Seco, and Volado. Ligero leaves come from the top of the plant, and have the highest nicotine content. Seco leaves come from the center of the plant. Volado comes from the bottom of the plant, and has the least nicotine.

I hope this helps to clear thing up.

Re: Whats your favourite wrapper

It's a toos up for me between a habano and maduro.

But looking at d_day's post, I think I need to find a stick that's both!
