SCHIP questions

Hey guys,

I'm looking to peurchase some cigars before SCHIP comes in to play. Here's the questions.

If I'm planning to buy a box of La Gloria Cubana and the price before SCHIP is 100$, what should I except after SCHIP?

125$??? is my guess right!!!

Re: SCHIP questions

CI has a page on SCHIP. It states the maximum increase of actual tax is capped at 40.26 cents/cigar. They say they will pass on only the increased tax, but it remains to be seen whether other retailers will just add the tax or add more.

25ct box add $10.07 = $110.07.
In Virginia then add 10% OTP $10.01 = $121.08
Add 5% sales tax $6.04 = $127.12

After SCHIP add whatever taxes your state has.

But only if you buy from retailers in your state, so I imagine online purchasing will take even more market share away from the B&M's, which sucks. What really will suck, is when states with little to no tobacco tax (PA for example, home of Holts, Famous, CI) get nailed with a state tax. This hobby is about to get very pricey...... insert dissenting political statement here

They imposed this tax a couple of years ago on Cigars, Pipes and Pipe Tobacco and products other than cigarettes. The money from this tax goes to the DOT to help fund Metro to build the Tyson's Corridor extension.

I guess it's built into the final sticker price since I never noticed it before..

The odd part is at Cigar Connections up here in Arlington I paid significantly less for a box of PAM 64 Monarca's than I found them online.. online I see em for 255, the original was 250 at my b&m, and since I buy just a rediculous amount of stuff I paid 220, but even before my discount, it was still cheaper with all additional taxes.

getting a little tired of this tax the smokers bit.. that appears to be one of the top questions in Health for todays Town Hall web thing with the pres.
