Cigars that were stored with flavored sticks

A friend of mine is going to sell me his humidor along with the cigars he has inside of it. Some of the smokes are decent however they have been stored with flavored cigars and clove cigarettes. Needless to say, all the cigars now smell like vanilla and clove. Is their anyway to bring the sticks back to their natural state?

no - and the humidor is likely a complete loss too, unless you want to rip out all the interior wood and redo it yourself

Re: Cigars that were stored with flavored sticks

Well... that is unless you want a flavored humidor. I keep one (humi) for flavored cigars and several others for naturals. There really isn't a way to completely remove the flavored taste from the natural cigars. If the cigars were wrapped in cellophane, I would remove the cello and place them in another separate all natural never flavored humi.

I have found that this does remove a lot of the flavors and over time I usually can only smell it and not taste it. Good luck. Go on the devil site and get yourself a great deal on some new humis, just not the ones I'm bidding on! -mrmusicman1

Wow, bummer man.

I don't know if the humi is a total loss. Would depend on how intensely flavored they are, how they are flavored, how many he stored in there. Take a wiff and if it smells flavored, don't put any good sticks in it. Good to have to as a backup to store any infused smokes separate from your regulars.

Re: Cigars that were stored with flavored sticks

How soon do you need the humidor, and is it a good deal? If you just have to buy this humidor from your friend and can try a couple things to get the smell out. One thing I would do is empty it out and just leave the lid up. Don't know how long it would take but I would leave it open for a while, and then check the smell from time to time. After you think the smell in gone re-season it. Or try putting a box of baking soda inside the humidor (with nothing else) so basically dry boxing it with baking sida. Then once no smell re-season it.

Or don't buy it.

I decided not to buy it. I didn't really need it in the first place but he was giving me a great deal. It's a shame he stored Acids and Rum Dips with 10 Cuban Cohiba's and some other great sticks.

Priceless.

You are better off for not buying.

I woulda bought them. A little bit of spice or vanilla scent on them? Eh, I'd deal with it if the deal was good enough.

What a shame, you might can try cleaning it with a vinegar and baking soda solution then letting it dry with the lid open for a while.

To me flavored cigars is right up there with cream and sugar in coffee and non alcoholic beer. It's a product....either you like it or you don't but it shouldnt ever be masked so you can tolerate it.

Some of the best prices I've seen for humidors are from Thompson. Check them out.
