What Kind of Gurkha Is This?

I got this cigar about 9yrs ago at a wedding I attended--gifted to me by the brides father. He said it was dipped in cognac. It originally came in a glass tube with a wax end, but I removed it to store it in my humidor. I can't remember what color the wax was, but I think it was red. The wrapper seems dark, perhaps a maduro, but definitely not a connecticut. size is a bit strange. It is about a 50rg, but the length is about 7.25" (not 7 or 7.5 as they usually are).
What is it?

Unless it's one of those $750 crazy cognac soaked cigars. One could only hope...

Re: What Kind of Gurkha Is This?

The one with cognac is "His Majesty's Reserve". $750.00 stick, so I doubt its that. Looks like "Grand Reserve", as Josh said. And they us cognac in that as well.

His Majesty's Reserve:
Gurkha - His Majesty's Reserve - Cigar.com

Grand Reserve:
http://www.cigar.com/cigars/viewcigar.asp?brand=386

Only thing different us the wax end of the tube. I'm sure there are other Gurkha's with the same band. A lot of their bands are they same looking, all use the same size style just different in colors. Its too bad they don't but the name on the band.

Re: What Kind of Gurkha Is This?

I was at my local B&M a while back and another BOTL came in and bought one of these. When he went to pull it out of the tube, the cognac had dripped down to the foot and glued that cigar to the tube. That cigar just would not come out of the tube. After about five minutes of trying, the owner came up with the bright idea of grabbing the head of the cigar with a pair of needlenose pliers. Bad idea! Oh that cigar did come out of the tube alright, but it was missing half of it's wrapper. That $20.00 cigar went straight into the garbage can. The BOTL was checking on the arrival of a box of these that he had ordered, and the one he grabbed to smoke was the last in the shop. The owner did make it right to him though.

Re: What Kind of Gurkha Is This?

Is it OK to store this in your humidor? I thought you weren't supposed to keep infused cigars in your humidor?

Flavored cigars will taint the other sticks in the humi, but this one only has a mild flavor aroma from the cognac. Its not like an Acid that is pungent with perfume and hippy incense.
(no offense Acid heads)

Re: What Kind of Gurkha Is This?

Thanks for all your help guys.
So it looks like it is the 12$ rather than the 750$ variety. I will smoke it then. While I am prone to sit on it and wait for a special occasion, I think I will allow spontaneity to rule this time. I will post a review when I do...
