OK BOTL, my humi is now 67 RH
I ordered the beads that everyone has been backing. I have had my humi at 70% with the gel stuff. I now have the beads and after about 4 days the humi is going down and now reading 67%. I assume that it will be at 65% in the next day or two. I have about 75 sticks (I know most of you have far more than that) in the humi. I don't want to trash my stash, but is 65% OK? I am a little paranoid....

65 is great man. IMO 65% - 70% is great. Anything above 70% and I taste a dramatic change in flavor for the worse. Below 65% and I have had mine start to crack and get crispy (in an extreme case). I assume you have the correct amount of crystals in your humi for the size etc. Good luck!

Did you get 65% or 70% beads? I have Heartfelt 65% beads and they are right on in a Coolerdor. Most people around here seem to prefer 65%. Your smokes will be fine at that RH.

Re: OK BOTL, my humi is now 67 RH
A lot of people like a 65 RH, many use 70 RH. I have several Humi's and a couple of coolers and happen to use both. Fully packed cigars with a tighter draw smoke better at a 65 RH. I find some of my softer smokes with a free draw smoke better at 70 RH. Either will work, its a matter of personal preference.

Mine stays anywhere between 61-65 and I am happy with the way they are smoking.

Sorry, I forgot that little bit of information. I have the 65% beads. Based on Vipor's calculator I have more beads than I need. I have the 2oz tube that is good up to 1080 sq inches. My humi is around 900 sq inches. |

Anywhere between about 63 and 71 will make you some happy cigars. The 70 is just a target but a few degrees one way or another is fine.In fact i've seen a lot of the exsperts say a cigar ages better at around 65 or so. I wouldn't go too much by how many or how few beads or this or that your adding because your personal house humidity, the temp,if the weather is rainy or dry and other factors come into play on formulas, instead add something.....watch your hygrometer a few days then add or take away as needed until you reach a happy spot.

Re: OK BOTL, my humi is now 67 RH
I store all my smokes at 65 but I like them even less humid than that when I smoke them, so I drybox them for a day or so. It's all personal preference though, just as others have said. Anything between 55 and 80 is probably safe for storage, based on what I've seen cigars stored at at b&ms. But watch out for mold above 75 or so.

They'll be fine. I know people who store and smoke at 60% and even 55% RH.

Re: OK BOTL, my humi is now 67 RH
I am in the process... my wife (who bought the Humi for my B-day) thinks that she has started a monster. I got an email at work from her today "you had another UPS package delivered today"... This is definitely a fun hobby... I should have another Wednesday from Joe's Jambi's... Ha! Thanks to all. I just wanted to make sure everything was OK... |
