Aurora 2nds and other 2nds?

In a knee jerk reaction to the new Tax I went on a spending spree. One purchase I made was a bundle of Aurora robusto 2nds for a everyday smoke. They will need to sit for a couple months before i attempt to smoke one but I wondered being a first time 2nds buyer if they or any other 2nds are good? Is it just the discoloration on the wrapper or does every cigar in the bundle have a different taste?

Re: Aurora 2nds and other 2nds?

The reasons some cigars are deemed seconds are wide and vast. Some are wrapper color or blemish, some are cut too short or too long.

For whatever reason they can't be sold as firsts. Now, if they taste and burn the same then who cares? What you DON'T want to find is that they taste different. When they taste different, you have no way of knowing if the blend was changed or not. There could be many legit reasons the blend to have changed, but you'll never know why.

IMHO, seconds aren't worth the gamble anymore. If I like the first, I'll just stick with the first as there's more for the mfg to lose when the blend changes. With a second, anything can change and you have nothing to complain about.

You want be disappointed in the Aurora 2nds if you like a mild smoke. They're mild but interesting. A real solid smoke. The construction is great. I smoked a number of them as soon as I got them. I let a few of them rest, but not for long. In fact, I'm out of them but will definitely purchase more for the humidor. I the one or two that did get some age on them were top notched for a mild smoke.

I have also tried RP Vintage 2nds. They taste just like the firsts. In fact, it was because of my experience with this smoke that had no reservations about the Auroras (even though I have never tried their firsts).

Same here,,,love RP seconds and stopped buying the 1st line as they were killing my pocketbook. Now I get them for about $25 a bundle and smoke one to deposit my savings in the bank.

Decided to give one of the Auroras a try. Not bad and it is a mild smoke which I dont mind now and again. I will be purchasing more.

I smoke Camacho 2nds as a cheap alternative and enjoy them very much. Especially with some time on them.

I am with Joe on that one. I too bought the La Aurora robusto 2nds, and they have become one of my favorites. I look forward to them getting even better with a little age on them.

I love 2nds. RP Vintage, Sungrown, Perdomo, Consuegra, etc. They are great for me after I get off work late and don't want to burn a premium. I once tried a Consuegra and a Camacho side by side and the Consuegra was better. It was a Camacho Havana which I've since heard is not their best. I like the Corojo. But I digress....

I'm surprised the Camacho Havana is not discontinued. We could not give that cigar away. We ended up putting them in mixed grab bags.
