Anybody tried Siglo?

I saw these in a local B&M, and today I got an e-mail from CVM Cigars touting them as a "Nicaraguan premium cigar". I am always skeptical when a cigar maker approximates the Cuban Cohiba band, as if the insinuation of equality is all they have to offer. The last stick I tried with a Cohiba-esque label on it was the Dominican Carbon Copy, the second-worst stick I have ever smoked (Rosa Cuba currently holds the title).

Re: Anybody tried Siglo?

If it's any consolation, the company putting out the Siglo is Altadis, which has a 50% stake in Habanos SA.

I must admit, I was quite skeptical when I read about the release. I tried one about 2 weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised. It's a good tasting smoke with a decent price point.

Re: Anybody tried Siglo?

I tried one a couple weeks ago and was not really impressed. The burn/draw was good and it produced plenty of smoke. The flavor was not there, it seemed rather thin and transparent, just didn't care for the profile. For me, there are other sticks I would much rather have for the $$$$$.

I will say that I'll try another just in case I got a "bad" one.

Re: Anybody tried Siglo?

I almost pick one up the other day at the B&M, but that band really turns me off! Why couldn't they just come up with a different name and band. To me they are trying to market to people that really don't know cigars. I still paln on trying one some day. But this time I just grabbed some other new sticks that wasn't from a big compnay with a fake cuban band on it LOL

The only Siglos I'll be touching are Cohibas, thank you. Think about that one for a minute, Altadis.

Hear, hear!

*Looks longingly in humidor.*

Not yet. Let them sit. Don't touch them. Patience, Frinky!

Re: Anybody tried Siglo?

I picked up a couple of these at my local B&M, smoked one of 'em and found it to have good flavor but not-so-good construction. I'll try another just to be sure, but for the price I expect better.

Re: Anybody tried Siglo?

i had recieved 3 of these for free from a radio show, and let them sit for about two months before smoking and thought it was pretty good. Wasn't anything amazing but decent construction, and a mild flavor. I still have one sitting, and traded the other to a friend for something else ( I cant remember what). I dont know if I'd buy another, I guess it'd depend on the price, but if your REALLY interested, I didn't find it to be horrible.

Re: Anybody tried Siglo?

I think there's too much name/brand confusion and duplication in the cigar industry to let one more get to me. I'll have to try these out.
