Man that does not look good, I am always inspecting the cigars I recieve and then check my humidor about every other week looking for small holes. Luckily nothing so far.

Re: Meet the beetles

I just read on a CI newsletter that microwaving a box and then freezing is the way to go now. They actually did some testing that showed beetle larvae can survive freezing.

Anybody else see that article??

Also another question...can they eat through celo to get at another cigar??

Re: Meet the beetles

I would have to read this first thing in the morning, huh? Now I have to wait all day to get home and check mine. I got some 5 Vegas As that were cedar wrapped. Never thought to take off the cedar to check, but you bet I will as soon as I get home. Thanks for sharing and sorry for your loss.

Re: Meet the beetles

I suppose there's no use to cry over spilt milk...

After reading this thread tonight I went to check on a box of HdM Excalibur 1066 I got a few weeks back. Eight or so sticks had pin holes in them. I inspected all 20 sticks upon arrival and these holes were not there. So those went to the trash and the remainders plus box are in the fridge going to the freezer.

I'm going to be optimistic that this was contained to one box and I don't need to freeze the rest of the sticks in the cooler. None of the cello on the 1066's was broken and there was no obvious black/brown dust. Guess time will tell.

mine stay at 65% and top out on a 90 degree day at 71-72. so I am not too worried about the little Beetles!!!

Re: Meet the beetles

Not a problem. There is nothing I can do about the damage that is already done, but hopefully this will help someone else. In all the pics I have seen before, I didn't see any where the larvae had actually eaten the wrapper. Another angle I hadn't thought about is that they would only eat where they couldn't be seen. If I hadn't pulled the sleeve off an infected cigar a couple of days ago, they might have done far more extensive damage in my humidor before I found them.

Re: Meet the beetles

I showed my age a bit in using it. I had a vinyl copy of Meet the Beatles within a month or so after its US release.

I had to find some way to inject a little humor into an otherwise aggravating situation.
