I have read here that our fearless Administator J.C.'s favorite lighter is a Xikar softflame-windproof lighter.

I ended up with one myself. They have a spiral wire coil above the fuel jet. When lit, the flame instantly heats the wire orange hot. In windy conditions the flame might go out but the hot wire is there to instantly relight it. At some point, if the wind reaches X ? M.P.H. the flame will be forced too low in the chamber to be usable... but a onehanded cup has worked great for me so far.

I like this soft flamed critter for relights, and I must say it has lit every time on the first time for me and never gone out in real life.
I made it fail just now by blowing really hard on it for 6 seconds straight. The wire is after all a passive device and eventually cooled off. But in actual use it has never failed in windy conditions.

Kinda sucks for toasting the foot tho. Maybe someone can give me a usefull tip on getting the most toast out of this guy?
Hint Hint.... Nudge Nudge?

Have a peek; http://www.cigarsinternational.com/p...0S&stext=XIKAR

BTW C.I. incorrectly describes this as a single flame jet. Do not be misled! It is a softflame.

I got mine on de-Devil site;

Title: Xikar Exodus Lighter - Chrome
Qty: 1
Price: $31.00
Lot #: 678432
Auction Closed: 2009-02-08 23:39:00.0

Hmmm I think I'll fling this out as a new thread too... Warn the bretheren what?

Bonus thought; I suppose they can only do the hotwire with a soft flame because a jet would be too hot and melt the wire.

Annnd__Out!

I actually got a clearance Colibri off Cbid that was made for Coleman, has the wire on top.
Does a real good job lighting the foot and relights.

When I first used it, I flipped the top up and went to light my cigar. The top being plastic, caught on fire.
So now my Coleman COlibri has no top, mainly used in my smoke room(garage)

I might be weird because I've come to prefer a soft flame for cigars. It takes longer to toast the foot but I have less problems scorching the wrapper with a soft-flame. The key is to take your time and just keep the foot at a 45 degree angle to the flame, with the tip of the flame just barely dancing on the foot.

I have the same lighter and love it, of course its hard to use a soft flame in the wind no matter how windproof it is. And I agree with the post above, it just a little longer to toast the foot and a little practice.

Patience is the key. Lately I have been using a torch again, but I to really like the soft flame of a bic, or even a BBQ lighter makes a very suitable substitute. I can get a very nice flame from my BBQ lighter, and it does a very good job.

I picked up an Ever Torch from a buddy of mine here and it its actually a soft flame and a torch. Now I havent got it fine tuned but it does work pretty well!

http://www.puff.com/forums/vb/retail...available.html

M0131K is the one I have.

Like I said it needs a lil fine tuning.
