Beverage Suggestions: Slightly Sweet...
I usually drink beer, and prefer hoppy ones, but they are not usually very good pairings for cigars to my palate. I recently enjoyed the combo of Spiced Rum and Coke to a 3-Siglos, as well as some robustos. The slightly sweet drink seemed to bring out the flavors better than beer does.
Any more suggestions? |

Re: Beverage Suggestions: Slightly Sweet...
Definitely! I generally drink slightly sweet beers such as German wheat beers (called hefeweizen's) or any american or belgian equivalent (generally called Witbier by the Belgians). But most beligian style beers are mildly sweet. These beers go excellently with cigars. My favorites are:
Franziskaner (German hefeweizen) Schneider Weisse (German hefeweizen) Maudite (Canadian belgian style) La Fin Du Monde (Canadian belgian style) Leffe Blonde (Belgian) Hennepin (American belgian style) Asahi (Japanese lager, slightly sweet cause it's a rice based beer) and well... ok... so I like beer. I can go on forever. You get the point By the way, Michelob actually has a new expanded line of beers. I actually really like their Dunkel Weisse.Rev. |

sweeter beverage pairing seemed to bring out more flavors from the maduros, and they tasted less bitter on the finish, more spicy and woody which was good! |

Re: Beverage Suggestions: Slightly Sweet...
You could try a cheaper whiskey (but not too cheap) mixed with ginger ale. I have had good success in paring a cigar with that drink.

Re: Beverage Suggestions: Slightly Sweet...
I prefer Kaliber (NA by Guiness) since i cant drink anymore or coffee or Coke. Coffee usually tastes better than anything else but when its 90 degrees out it just dont work.

Have you tried ports? They are good for taming down the spicier cigars, but have never tried port with a Maduro.

Re: Beverage Suggestions: Slightly Sweet...
I was just going to make a thread called "Beverage of choice".
Recently I stumbled across the perfect drink for tasting cigars, and it is.... Turkey Hill's Green Tea with Ginseng and Honey! I wouldn't try the others with mango or whatever, just the original. Green Tea itself is a very subtle flavor, slightly sweet, goes down like water. And unlike water it clears your taste pallet. That way when you go for your next 3-5 draws you can really taste the flavor of the cigar. |

But, I noticed in your info you last smoked an Old Henry from Holts. Can you PM me, so as to not take this thread off topic, to let me know what you think of them? Been curious myself to be honest ![]() Rev. |

Re: Beverage Suggestions: Slightly Sweet...
I... LOVE... RUM...
That said, a great sipping rum (Zacapa or Zaya) is an excellent companion to a cigar. You can (and should!) drink these neat with your stogie. I like coffe sometimes and coffee with Kahlua seemed to pair well with most cigars, too. I tried Bailey's and coffee but that didn't work for me. Cigary on here swears by Drambuie with his cigars.

Re: Beverage Suggestions: Slightly Sweet...
I second the comment on port. I've enjoyed this pairing, especially with maduros. Also, a good manhattan works when the mood strikes me.
