Well, maybe my electric company is cheap on electricity (PSEG), but when I use my two energy efficient AC's during the summer, but only one running at a time as they are in two different sections of the house, my electric bill doesn't usually budge past $60 a month. And that's with one running all day. I have the one in my dogs room running during the day to keep them cool. When we come home we shut that one off, let the dogs out of the room, and run the one in the living room. PSEG however murders me with heating bills during the winter. The electric/heating bill (as it's one bill) goes up to as much as $300 during the winter!

Wow. Either you're lucky or I'm unlucky. My bill is always at least 150 a month, and it goes up from there with the AC on to about 200-220.

Re: The 140 Principle and Beetles

In the late spring I take my humidors down to the basement level and leave them there as it is a constant 65-70 degrees. I keep one humidor in my bedroom so I don't have to walk down 3 flights of stairs to get a cigar. Our basement is an above ground type but stays cool all summer.
The bottom deck is the basement part of the house and the deck above that is off the study. There are two other decks on the opposite side of the house so there is plenty of areas to enjoy my cigars.

Re: The 140 Principle and Beetles

I would have to say the practice may be considered, but to an extent.. I get nervous any time I'm over 75F... the idea that you are ok as long as they add up to 130 - 140 is just off, as someone pointed out, 100 degrees and 35% would not be a good environment.

We just had a few 90 degree days and like Gary immediately moved everything to the basement.. makes me wish I had a second wineador.
