Storing your cigars in a already humid room.

I'm starting to get concerned about the heat and my cigars getting beetles. It's been in the 90's for a couple days in a row now, and although its supposed to cool off soon come late may I'll have 90 degree temperatures everyday.

My question is, when it does get hot again soon, would it cause me problems if I stored my humidors in my unfinished basement that seems to be already quite humid?

This may be a dumb question, since humidors are supposed to keep the humidity in, so i assume it won;t be a problem. I just wanted to make sure.

Humidors that seal good, will keep higher humidity out for awhile

Please remember cheaper humidors do not like a high humidity environment

No A/C?
Cigars in hotter climates love to be under 75 degrees.
Mine are around 70

Even a very good humidor lets some air in, it's supposed to. The worry with basements is a musty, mouldy smell, and in fact mould itself. If I had to move them to the basement for temperature control, I would do it in tupperware type containers as they are airtight.

90's in Maryland already??? I live in Florida and I think our highest so far has been mid 80s. That has to be some freakish weather up there...

You could always go to Home Depot or somewhere and get one of those large plastic tubs ($10 or so) and put your humidor in there with some dessicant. That will keep the humidity down inside the tub depending on the amount of dessicant you put in. Seems extreme but is a solution to high humidity.

Re: Storing your cigars in a already humid room.

This part of FL has been hovering around 93 for the past week or so. I purposefully turn on the AC for my cigars. I turn it off at night and on around noon to save money. When I was in WI it was not uncommon to run a dehumidifier in your basement to help prevent mold etc. Run it 24/7. You might want to think about it. I'm sure it's a whole lot cheaper than a beetle/mold mildew taste on your collection.

I keep my humi in my basement (NE Ohio) year round. Even when it gets in the 90's, the temp in the humi never goes above 75. I use Heartfelt beads to absorb the excess humidity in the summer.

I was wondering when someone was going to mention beads. Put some dry beads in to keep the humidity down. My humidor is always int he basement. It is finished but in the summer when the humidity is up, i just don't have to add moisture near as much as i do in the winter when the humidity is low.
