A strikingly inconvenient twist on "Cigar Bomb"

So I'm relaxing on a little patio outside the building I stay in here on JSS Loyalty in beautiful Southeast Baghdad yesterday morning, reading a little on my book as has been my morning ritual for the past couple days, enjoying a monstrous Padilla Achilles Salomon in all of it's magnificently scrumptuous toasty, woody, phallic glory. When about 2" or so into the cigar I hear a HUGE blast waaay to close for comfort. Thinking it's an indirect fire attack, and more huge uncomfortable blasts will immediately follow, I grab my stuff and dip inside. Before I enter the building it dawns on my I can't really bring a burning cigar inside, so in one of the split second decisions you make when you feel your life is in immediate danger I toss the cigar on the concrete and jet inside.

LUCKILY subsequent blasts did not follow as it was not an indirect fire attack at all but a car bomb that detonated outside the wall. I was able to resume my smoke within' a couple of seconds thankfully before it had burned out but the wrapper had been cracked and badly damaged when it hit the ground and unraveling in several places. It didn't create a major problem throughout smoking it until I was content with it, just a minor nuisance.

My enjoyment wasn't completely ruined, but it sucks regardless you know. I was really liking that cigar. Not as tasty or interesting as some, but it had a smooth enjoyable flavor that I was really digging. Nothing like the threat of a near death experience to F up a perfectly good cigar!

So that was my morning smoke, how about yours?

You're "The Man", brother. Thank you for your service and commitment to protecting my freedom to smoke my cigars on the porch that you also protect!

Sorry that IED broke your concentration and interrupted the more important ritual of savoring a good smoke. But, carry on!

My morning, here in the land you protect, found me smoking a well-napped LGC Serie R No. 5 Maduro. It was sweet. It was flavorful and it was onlly enjoyed, because YOU are doing what you're doing.

I thank you.

Aces: *You're* the man, I was thinking about lining the inside of my humi with mirrors to make it look like I have more cigars but I think i'm just gonna print some pics of your hauls and tape them to the inside. Until payday, mwhaha! ...It's not nearly as bad here as it used to be though, that's for sure. We're all lucky it seems to be getting better although you know they're probably just playing freeze out with us.

Herf n Turf: Thanks for your support , Those Serie #9's are very high on my 'to try' list. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I don't have any news on the nature of the incident or what the target was, even if so it probably wouldn't be wise to say too much All I know is Ex-freakin'-tremely loud boom really spoils the mood when you're trying to chill.

Re: A strikingly inconvenient twist on "Cigar Bomb"

Don't you just hate it when the neighbors set off car bombs without asking first? I wonder if the condo committee could have a word with them or at least pass a motion during the next meeting.

I swear, some people....you let them have a small party and the next thing you know they want to go around the neighborhood setting off IED's.

Look under and around, not over, keep your topknot brother.
