Opinion on buying JR Cigars

So I decided to buy JR Cigar's Alternative to Perdomo Reserve No5 (JR code: JRPR5 or JRPR53) Has anyone smoked these cigars, do they have nice aroma, are they worth it?

What other medium bodied JR's have nice aroma? I am new to cigars, and would like something lighter to medium bodied.

Welcome to the ocean! I like the JR Alternate to the JR Ultimate. This should fit your needs. Also you may want to go to the New Puffer Fish Forum and introduce yourself.

Re: Opinion on buying JR Cigars

Lots of folks give JR Alts a rough time, but they simply are what they are..... Cheap cigars.

The only thing that the Alts have even remotely in common with their namesakes is the size, and that's about it. None taste anything like what they are the alt to, and in fact most are mild to med in taste and body, at best.

Are they any good? "To each their own", I have a few and have smoked quite a few back in the day. I will say that if you can give them a couple of years in the humidor it will help. The few I have are 10+ years old.

Re: Opinion on buying JR Cigars

I have not tried any of them yet, however, a co-worker of mine swears by them. He gave me a JR Ultimate the other day, however, I have yet to try it. I'll probably have it this weekend, so, I'll post about it here then.

The Ultimates are GREAT smokes. Totally different animal than the Alts.

I have some old JR Ultimate double oscuros that I really like - but they are old. I have no idea what the current one's taste like, or any of their other offerings for that matter.

Re: Opinion on buying JR Cigars

I think that a lot of the disappointment with JR comes from the fact that people еxpect that the JR Cigars will taste very similar to the ones they are imitating, and so expectations disagreement. I dont really care if they dont taste similar to the ones they are trying to immitate, but I just look at the cigar itself and decide, yes it is a good cigar, or no it's not a good cigar. I was thinking about buying the bundle of 20 of the JRPR5 or JRPR53 but I might just buy a couple of different ones to try. thanks all

Re: Opinion on buying JR Cigars

I purchased several bundles of the JR Edicion Limitada Alternative Montecristo C Cigars from JRcigar.com. They were recommended by several members of this forum and absolutely love them. I was even surprised they are individually cellophane wrapped as well. I gave a few to a friend and he's hooked on them as well. At $1.92 per cigar delivered, they've become our ED smoke. They have an excellent draw and produce a great smoke cloud on the exhale. Construction is excellent and very consistant from one 20 pack to another.

Smoke one right after you get them and you'll regret it.

Give them ATLEAST 3-4 mo. rest and you wont be dissapointed, this has been my experience with the Cohiba Alternatives.

I've heard good things about the hoyo epicure alt. and the cohiba alt. but i've heard bad about Perdomo and fuente.

Re: Opinion on buying JR Cigars

I just had an ultimate and I wasn't a huge fan. Maybe it's because they didn't rest very long, as I believe it was given to me only a couple days after it was purchased.

Re: Opinion on buying JR Cigars

I once purchased the JR alternate Gurkha G3 i think it was (ive never had the real G3 honestly) but I thought they tasted great. I would just try as many different kinds as you can and then eliminate till you find your fav. For a buck and a half, there's not much to lose. I'd still like to try the Ultimate.

You have to remember What YOUR paying FOR THE CIGAR IS IT WORTH THE MONEY ?, your call. cigar smoking is a personal thing. Whats the differance between a 10.00 cigar and a 2.00 cigar ? is $8.00
