The bahia gold lines are the closest... but as the old saying goes, and seems to be very appropriate for these forums close... but no cigar.

Well I smoked an ISOM given to me by Mogleman about two weeks ago and it was a pretty good smoke. Kind of like comparing apples and oranges.

I'll also try to be nice too . . .
It depends on which Cuban cigar you are trying to duplicate. To my taste buds, the DR Montecristo Afrique and H-2000 come close in taste to the Cuban Montecristo. But not exactly. I have also found that a Cuban Punch Punch or Punch Corona tastes a lot like a well aged Honduran Punch Royal Coronation. But again, not exactly the same. As to the others, I really have not found a lot of similarity. In fact, most of the NC cigars with Cuban names taste nothing at all like the Cuban version. At least not in my opinion. It is kind of asking which apple tastes the most like an orange. As to your second question, I take a bit of a different view. If it was impossible for me to get my hands on a Cuban cigar, I could find a whole lot of Fuentes, Honduran Punches and DR Montecristos to "settle on".

Re: Survey: What NC's come closest to ISOM's
I once had a CAO Cameroon that tasted very Cuban... had one other stick I can't remember that did for a little ways too. The (very) rare times I have had a NC taste Cuban was only for the first third at the most and then they would go back to the normal NC flavor... I also believe that the ones I tried had a little bit of age on them but am unsure about that part.

So to answer your question...who cares!!! Apparently Cubans aren't all that good, so why would you want to duplicate the experience? |
