What draw do you prefer?

Just curious what the forum thinks about the draw of a cigar. For whatever reason, most of my prefered sticks have a fairly firm draw. Right now, Im smoking a Rocky Patel Old World Reserve maddie and the draw feels strange to me, as it is very easy. I love the cigar and would never take points off for the draw, but it just strikes me as different.

What do you guys like?

Re: What draw do you prefer?

Let me tell you this... when I was still relatively new to cigars I liked a medium draw, with a little bit of resistance. After a few things my opinion changed - mainly finding Padron. Padron's are almost always a nice easy draw. A long time ago I didn't like that cause I thought it felt like sucking through an wide straw. Well, I found over time that 1) the smoke tastes much better, and 2) I get a hell of a lot more smoke.

The other thing is I've come across a decent number of way too tightly rolled cigars in my time so I hate a tight draw. You pull and pull and get nothing. It's a waste of time. However, medium draw is fine with me. I still am happy with a slight bit or resistance - ie. a medium draw. I just prefer it more open. As long as I can pull and get a decent amount of smoke I am happy. If I'm working at it and puffing out these tiny little puffs of smoke and not tasting much I get annoyed and if it stays that way for a while I end the smoke

Sheesh!

Just a point of clarification. I am NOT talking about what he's talking about! When I say, "firm" I don't mean "semi-plugged", or sucking and sucking and getting nothing. I am talking about a well constructed cigar, which simply, BY DESIGN, touts a firmer draw. That's it!

I sure as heckidy-heck do NOT want this thread to turn into an endlessly obnoxious rant about what plugged-up-turd you last smoked! I am asking for your opinons of good examples of good cigars that offer different draw characteristics. NOT, mistakes!

I just hope this thread hasn't already got off on the wrong foot.

In my entire time on this forum I have never once seen someone come off as such an ass on anything I've posted. I responded to your post and you turned it into 'me trashing your thread'. Good grief, if you're going to ask for opinions you need to understand people are going to respond, and most are going to based on their experiences. There is no such thing as a perfectly constructed cigar with a really firm draw. Most top notch cigars that are $20+ do NOT have tight draws!

So sorry to have answered your post with my opinion. Didn't mean to upset the heck out of you with my so called "obnoxious rant", but thanks for upsetting the heck out of me.

Re: What draw do you prefer?

I like a firm draw, lots of smoke within two no more then three puffs. If I have to work at it to get the flavor then its a disapointment. I agree Rocky and imo COA can be a very ligth darw at times, but I wont put them out just for that, Howeber, I like the firmer draw of a fuente or Romeyo, I know those are going to deliver the volume of smoke I really like. I cant stand the straw effect, its almost as bad as having one too tight.

Too firm and we all know where that leads as soon as it loads up, not good. Somewhere in the middle is better then either extream IMO.

Cheers,
Randall

Re: What draw do you prefer?

As REV2010 mentioned, I like the Padrons for the way they open up while smoking. On the other hand when I smoke a larger ring band I prefer a tighter draw. May sound weird but sometimes the look of the cigar kind of sets the draw expectations.
