Just finished an LFD Double Ligero Hammer - wow!

Well, I just typed a whole long post and accidentally hit F6 which refreshed the page and I lost EVERYTHING!!! Fracking Microsoft!!!!!! Anyone else here have that happen?

Anyhow, I'll try again. I'm posting this here rather than the review section as this isn't just a review but a question as well.

Just finished smoking one of these about an hour ago. Normally I'm not a fan of dominican tobacco unless it's mixed with others. So far the only dominican I want to stock in my humi is the Arturo Fuente Hemmingway. Well, this cigar was certainly amazing and I want to stock these in my humi.

First I'd like to say I didn't find it as strong as touted in some of the comments I've read. It's certainly a full bodied cigar but I'd like to offer if you're accustomed to smoking full bodied nicaraguan tobacco, my favorite, then you'll do fine with these. I've read some people say they "through me for a loop" or people saying they got the cold shakes from them. I had mine with a few beers and am fine

Anyhow, the first inch or so I thought, "Wow, this tastes just like an Indian Tabac Super Fuerte Maduro". Then about 1/3 or so in it took on the exact taste of a Padron 1964! I've never come across a dominican cigar that tastes like a nicaraguan - impressive I must say. About halfway through it took on an RP Fusion (blue band) taste. Wow, I am amazed at the complexity. The last third went back to the Indian Tabac taste. Also, the construction was perfect as was the burn - no fixing needed.

I love this cigar! Awesome, I want more

Now, to my other point of this thread. Have any of you found the same about the strength? Being touted as one of the strongest I'd definitely hesitate to agree with that. Personally I've found the Padron 1964 to be stronger. Also, more importantly, have any of you found it to taste so much like a nicaraguan?

Oh darn, almost forgot... I want to thank all of you that mentioned your like for this cigar! I can't recall specific names, but I tried this due to the responses here on them, and thank you guys for turning me on to them!

except for hittin' the F6 key.

Thanks for the review. I have one sitting on the bottom shelf of my humi that I have been saving (reluctant) to try. Been waiting for a post ginormous dinner occasion to offset the rumored nicotine. Now I am anxious to try it. Thanks.

Well, I forgot to mention I had mine on a pretty much empty stomach! So, if you've had Padrons or other full bodied nicaraguans I'd say don't worry about it and go for it. It tastes wonderful and didn't get me sick, not in the slightest. Actually, gonna go out in a while and have a 1926

Thanks for the review. I want to try one but the others have had me a little scared. I really don't enjoy having 2 hours of recovery time from a crazy strong cigar. I love the PAM '64 so maybe I can handle one of these.

Thanks for that input, I'll definately get one of those as I usually prefer nicaraguan blends but sounds like a trip down discovery lane!!

Re: Just finished an LFD Double Ligero Hammer - wow!

The only cigars I smoke are strong cigars... I love the LFD Double Ligero. Im like your Rev, I rarely enjoy Dominican Cigars as well besides a few select Fuentes and oddly enough Pueblo Dominicanos, go figure. I do find these to be up there in strength but not up there with a Camacho Corojo or other strong Nic's

Re: Just finished an LFD Double Ligero Hammer - wow!

I agree with you that these are a great cigar. If you are an experienced cigar smoker the warning on these cigars pretty much is not exactly accurate. If you are used to mild and medium smokes then you might get a buzz off these but I have had some pretty potent cigars in my life and there were only a couple that really put me in the "bag",,,,

I found the 5 Vegas Miami M5 to have much more kick to it. But I like the LFD Ligeros a lot more...

To me the Ligero seemed stronger. I have no idea why - logically it should not be. The taste is spicy, but as far as strength I have had stronger - some of the Padrons, the Rocky Patel Edge maduro and CAO MX2 come to mind.

Re: Just finished an LFD Double Ligero Hammer - wow!

The entire La Flor Double Ligero line is one of my go-to favorites. But the only cigar in the line which hits me hard is the DL Chisel Maduro. Since there were no photos in your post (and I'm not aware of a DL "Hammer"), exactly which vitolas did you smoke? Was it actually The Chisel?

The Chisel is much smoother and tastier than I had expected. The flavor is mostly pepper/spice layered over leather, or vice versa. Not complex, but very pleasing and fun. Several boxes are now part of my stash.

The Chisel will knock you on your tuckus, but it sneaks up on you. It is easily stronger than the CAO LX2 and much stronger than the Camacho Triple Maduro. Both were recommended to me as being stronger, so I tried them all out the same week. No contest.

The Hammer is a Holt's exclusive size. It's the exact same blend but a different vitola. It is 6.5x47:

Holt's Cigar Company - Everything Cigars Since 1898!

The Chisel is a half inch shorter but 54 rg. I will try one soon. I don't think the Chisel will hit me hard either. I haven't had a single strong cigar that has thrown me for a loop and I've had many. I also drink a few beers with my cigars too I guess I can just handle it well. I have however been knocked silly by drinking like a madman all day long and having 3 cigars while on vacation - got me sick LOL. But laying on the floor in the shower with nice warm water raining down straightened me out within an hour

But the LFD Double Ligero Hammer was such an awesome smoke I'm considering a box purchase. I would probably go with the Chisel as I'm not too keen on skinnier vitola's, though the construction and draw of the hammer was excellent.

*EDIT - I forgot to mention mine was maduro, though oddly they only show natural under the list.

I had my first double a few weeks ago and it was one of the most pleasant sticks I have ever smoked. I'm in the process of convincing my wife that they're a great deal by the box. Extraordinary cigar, and right up my flavor profile alley. Strong, flavorful and best of all smooth as silk, even through the sinuses. Great, but I can't get them locally.

I am interested in LFD cigars. I ordered the number 7. Next order will be something in double ligero. I can't wait. I love lots of flavor and strength and these look good. The short fat ones especially.
