Most interesting cigar you've smoked lately?
I recently sprung for CI's stimulus sampler; 20 smokes for $29.95.Honestly had never smoked any of them, but for the price I figured if 4 or 5 them were worthwhile I would have got my moneys worth.Anyway my wife is out of pocket tonight having a sleep study to determine if she is having sleep apnea, so I decided to have a solo mini-herf.Retired to the patio with a small bottle of Remy Martin and proceded to give some of them a try.Without going into great detail about the lesser smokes of the bunch I will comment on two,the La Herencia lives up to it's billing, but the the most interesting smoke was a Cuba Libre,a 6 by 50 mildly box pressed toro.On exam had a beautiful smooth oily almost vein free wrapper.Initial impressions after lighting was Grassy, floral, and white pepper. When you exhaled through your nose it was almost menthalated.I typically dont appreciate any cigar with grassy start but this flavor faded quickly and I decided to keep on trucking.Glad I did!Remained floral to a certain degree and pepper remained throughout,as did the menthal sensation when exhaled through my nose. The burn was great,as was the draw. Was medium in strength.I would recommend without reservations if you are open to new experiences.I say this because I am a diehard Nicaraguan Fiend and this one surprised me in that it did not fit my flavor profile in any way but I still loved it!FrankB

Re: Most interesting cigar you've smoked lately?
Thanks for the great review Frank. I got the same package just before the April 1 tax as I ordered heavily to beat that and got one in mine as well and have been meaning to try it. I will have to break it out in the next day or two.

Re: Most interesting cigar you've smoked lately?
I sit in CI's Superstore to smoke sometimes. For several months a lot of their staff smoked Cuba Libre regularly.
Because it was pushed at a low price, a lot of guys tried it. A few still smoke it regularly, but most (as I did) did not have your positive reaction. One more example of "different smokes for different folks". (OF COURSE, ON THAT MINI-HERF, HOW FAR YOU ARE INTO A BOTTLE OF REMY CAN .....) gLAD YOU ENJOYED YOURSELF |

Re: Most interesting cigar you've smoked lately?
Like you I am a nicaraguan fiend. It is by far my favorite tobacco, and I've had CC's. But recently my most interesting was a dominican, the La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero Hammer (Holts exclusive vitola). The one thing I kept thinking while smoking it is, "How the hell did they get Dominican tobacco to taste like Nicaraguan!?". I've never been a fan of dominican tobacco unless mixed with others, but this one is spectacular.
A few other excellent find were Holts' Old Henry Maduro, ordering more soon. Also, I had bought a 15 pack of RP Fusion (3 different types) and found that I absolutely love the blue banded one - standard fusion. It is far more complex than the others which are still good but one trick ponies. The thing about the RP Fusion is that the first inch comes off pretty harsh and I had nearly considered ditching it but kept on and was rewarded. I'd say flavor changes three times. First inch or so, then middle, then the last 1/3. The last 1/3 actually is very Padron 'esque, in my opinion of course. Others may not find the same. Rev. |

Re: Most interesting cigar you've smoked lately?
The most interesting I've had lately would have to be the DPG Black Label. Ever since I've had that cigar, I've wanted another, which is a bit unfortunate since I don't have any more. Keeping in line with this thread, it's a heck of a nicaraguan, and will soon be a regular occupant of my humi (once I make some room in the dang thing!)

Re: Most interesting cigar you've smoked lately?
The most interesting for me was a Gurkha Titan II. Wasn't expecting to much out of it but with it being 7" long it wasn't something I had broken out yet due to not having the time. I took it with me to a concert that we were tailgating at 4 hours ahead of time. I was amazed by the two hours it took to smoke and how smooth it was. When I have time to waste again I will break out another.

Re: Most interesting cigar you've smoked lately?
This wasnt real recently, but several weeks ago, I tried a Perdomo Cabinet Series La Tradicion. I was at a friends house for an overnight visit and brought several sticks with me to pay for room and board. I layed them on the table and asked which he wanted. His eyes bugged and he immediately reached for the La Tradicion. Before he got too cozy with it, he asked, "Have you tried this yet." No, I said. "Oh man, then you smoke it. I love those things!" So, out on the porch we went to enjoy a cool Blueridge evenings herf.
That stick just BLEW my mind. Long burning, complex, never predictable, but absolutely phenomenal flavors all the way through. I went back to my B&M and was told they had discontinued that band a while back and they were all gone. Ahhhhh! Thankfully I snagged 15 off the devil, so I have a some stashed.

It's a three way tie. All Opus. The Chili Pepper, the BBMF, or the Opus A.

Re: Most interesting cigar you've smoked lately?
I wouldnt call it interesting but I have wanted to try Arganese cigars for a while and see how they are to possibly get more. They are always on sale at Famous.
I believe the blend I smoked is now discountinued but I love it. I smokes a Connecticut Ambassador. AWESOME. I am normally more of a full flavored smoke kind of person and havent really found a mild cigar that just blew me away. I loved this smoke from start to finish. It had a very creamy texture and just s smooth finish. A great cigar and i will be buying more
